Hello,

I am new to MB and was wondering where and how to find writers to write white papers on various topics for my business. We are focused on local business online reputation and would like to find a writer or writers to write a variety of different white papers ranging from the dangers of your online reputation to tips for self-managing your online reputation.

Does anyone know what site is best for finding professional writers for this type of task?

Thank you,

Josh

Hi Josh,

You could post a listing in MediaBistro's job listings or search in MB's freelance marketplace -- some people, myself included, do corporate writing. Feel free to send me an email off this site if you'd like to discuss the opportunity further.

Looking for white paper writer
I write white papers and have done so in many technologies and for many companies. I have experience in online fraud (to answer your original ad).

Let me know if interested

So, to write white papers do you have to have a background in the technology being written about? I mean, as a journalist who writes frequently about all things mechanical and technological, I'm wondering if I could figure it out. Is that considered "technical writing?"

White paper journalism - online reputation
How: select writers with broad portfolios and journalism chops. You'll get a fresh approach when you select a pro journo. I've not found an assignment I can't handle, from deep science to medicine to technology to lifestyle: the net effect of training and field experience.

If you restrict replies to writers who have topic-relevant samples, you may be cheating yourself. Given your topic, I'd look for writers as advised next, or contact me directly.

Where: here on MB with a clear ad, but you can also try Craigslist. Be forewarned: CL typically produces a huge response, most of it poorly aimed at your wall to see if it'll stick. Do you really want to wade through 20, 30, even 50 replies, many originating offshore? If you use CL, avoid listing as a GIG since that'll become a trash basket for you. List as a Writing/Editing job, then clearly state part time or project.

If you use CL, post locally and in key writer's cities (NY, San Francisco, Chicago, LA). Suggest Web 2.0 familiarity since that's where reputation will be gained or lost on the web.

Good luck!
