| noname1234 | Posted 5/5/2008 10:47:48 AM | show profile Gosh, you are RIGHT np! I'm am shocked -- SHOCKED I tell you! -- that a president would want the greatest nation on earth to have a foreign policy not based only on spending $1 trillion to wage war, but to spend a part of that sum to alleviate global poverty! A travesty, I tell you! After all, under NO circumstances do we want developing nations to look at the US as a force of good in this world. No sirree bob -- we want to make SURE developing nations look to us ONLY as warmongers -- make sure folks growing up in those countries hate the US! Yes, sir, that's the foreign policy strategy I'm talking about. Thanks NP, for pointing out that obama wants the US to be part of the solution to global poverty -- we CANNOT have that! |
| noname1234 | Posted 5/5/2008 11:19:42 AM | show profile novel, give me a break. I have no problem whatsoever with the US participating more actively in effective global-poverty fighting programs. I don't buy this cynical crap that money always goes to corrupt regimes, therefore our government should do nothing. If you feel that our foreign-policy dollars are best spent on warfare, you're free to think that. |
| reporterwriter | Posted 5/5/2008 12:53:00 PM | show profile You guys are so incredibly smart, I just don't understand why the American people haven't discovered you and turned over the nation and media to you. You two are the only true thinking people in this country, and it has to be so tiresome for you to keep writing over and over and over "wake up, people! wake up, people! Pay attention! I am right, you are wrong and uninformed and stupid!" I simply don't understand why nobody has seen the light, continuing instead to voice their own opinions when yours are the correct ones. All you can do is try to beat their opinions out of them until they see how right you are! And the media! What is wrong with them, that they don't give every detail about everyone and everything in every story before they write or broadcast a word? I mean WTF! I want to know everything about everybody from birth on up -- what they've seen, what they've done, what they've said, who they've know, who those people have known, anyone who's said anything about them, and so forth. It's the only way to form an opinion. It's important. And, after all, media know everything -- ears on walls, private eyes, crystal balls and all that. I mean, investigative reporters, they're spies! Media are what made the Freedom of Information Act such a farce -- media already have all the freedom and all the information -- way, way more than ordinary people have --but they withhold and twist it and manipulate it to deliberately mislead the lemmings of a brainless public into following their ultra-liberal leftist anarchist agenda! So let's keep bashing and bashing and bashing until they get the point! I mean, you don't need facts, you don't need backup; repetition will do it. Hey, I'm on board! Fill their eyes and ears until they surrender to your rightness and admit their wrongness and ignorance. That's the smart thing to do. That's what America's all about. |
| noname1234 | Posted 5/5/2008 12:53:30 PM | show profile "Felix"? I don't understand that reference, sorry. |
| reporterwriter | Posted 5/5/2008 1:29:24 PM | show profile You're so brilliant, maybe you can explain how, on every candidate, event and issue, literally hundreds of thousands of people in one profession share in collusion worldwide to mislead the public. |
| reporterwriter | Posted 5/5/2008 1:40:13 PM | show profile There we go with the insults again, novel. I don't understand why you and np don't simply e-mail each other back-and-forth off the board for the mutual masturbation you do here. You two don't do anything except gang up on media and anyone who comes here with a different point of view. Neither one of you offers any information of substance, and both of you show no evidence of knowing why the press was written into the Constitution and how newsgathering works. So you own the board now. Feel important. Who cares? |
| noname1234 | Posted 5/5/2008 2:06:11 PM | show profile novel, where have you seen woman-bashing on threads here? can you post a link? "woman-bashing" is especially troubling to me because I am a woman. |
| reporterwriter | Posted 5/5/2008 2:12:25 PM | show profile NP, with all due respect, you're pitching total BS and personal insult again, apparently an attempt to deflect. Also, FWIW, I'm not a man. |
| reporterwriter | Posted 5/5/2008 2:13:39 PM | show profile >>I might be inclined to attempt an explanation from my vantage point.<< Right. What year would you have planned to do this? |
| noname1234 | Posted 5/5/2008 3:05:35 PM | show profile Again, novel, where is the woman-bashing specifically? Is it women posters here who are being bashed, or women generally who are being bashed? That's a strong and very concerning accusation -- can you please provide links to examples of this? |
| noname1234 | Posted 5/5/2008 3:40:58 PM | show profile You mean her use of the phrase "mutual masturbation"? A (common) off-color metaphor, sure -- how is it "woman-bashing"? |
| noname1234 | Posted 5/5/2008 4:08:07 PM | show profile The accusation was specifically "woman bashing" |
| la girl in atl | Posted 5/5/2008 4:39:23 PM | show profile you guys work? np, novel, noname...just wondering...do you guys work? No offense, just wondering because you all spend A LOT of time posting...and i imagine it is also time consuming gathering all that information you have to document your opinions. ------ la girl in atl |
| mb_greg | Posted 5/5/2008 5:59:07 PM | show profile | email poster I didn't find reporterwriter's post to be sexist, and we're not going to censor posts simply based on the use of adult language. However, if you people are unable to interact on these forums without descending into name-calling and personal insults, we will take action. If you don't like another poster and find it impossible to interact with her in a civil fashion, I suggest you avoid responding to that person's posts. We provide you with a message board, not a boxing ring. And I have zero interest in being the referee. ------ Greg Membership Director mediabistro.com |
| reporterwriter | Posted 5/6/2008 1:24:11 AM | show profile Like I said, you guys are funny. There's no other description for it. Please, continue your thoughts. ;o) |
| reporterwriter | Posted 5/6/2008 1:47:23 AM | show profile P.S. Many thanks, Greg. I'm trotting off into the sunset by choice -- feel like I subjected myself to a looney bin for the last week or so, and now work's picking up again. It'll be fun to peek in from time to time to see who's dragging whom through the mud, if there's anyone left. Hug-hug-kiss-kiss, y'all! |
| Stanley_Milgram | Posted 5/6/2008 9:02:11 AM | show profile I think that they think they're "influencing the media" by posting here. As if the occasional associate editor for Cat Fancy who peeps in here has any agenda-setting power. |
| reporterwriter | Posted 5/6/2008 1:07:19 PM | show profile >>Reporter no one will miss your one line unintelligent quips so good riddance and no need to return! ;)<< When I want to return, I'll return. You don't get the say-so on that. ;)) |
| writermum | Posted 5/6/2008 1:27:54 PM | show profile http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/06/opinion/06herbert.html?hp This is Bob Herbert on McCain's refusal to support the new GI bill. np and others who are supposedly Democrats and who will not vote Democrat if Hillary is not the nominee -- are these the types of policies you wish to support by choosing McCain? Just curious -- because you do tend to talk like caring for regular people and repaying our debt to our soldiers are among your values. |
| la girl in atl | Posted 5/6/2008 2:53:21 PM | show profile http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/06/opinion/06herbert.html?hp writermum... Thanks for distracting from the nonsense that's been going on in this post. Several people on this post are constantly trying to distract from the real issues that are affecting everyday Americans and are focusing more on the garbage that the media feeds us. The reality is that we are in a major on-going, never-ending war that has been detrimental to thousands of families personally involved. We seem to loose sight of what these men and women in uniform are experiencing everyday and what their futures hold after they've given their time to our great nation. Please support our troops & the future of our country and open your minds folks. ------ la girl in atl |
