2 questions:

i have 2 very prestigious master's degrees, plus 2 years office editing experience with an academic project, and am 7 months into full-time freelance editing (mostly copyedit) for academic books. when looking at the per-page/word rates in other threads, it's obvious that i'm sorely underpaid at the moment, but am happy to gain some experience for hte time being

1. when is it fair to ask for a pay raise, either from a company i've been with for a while, or as a general 'amount of experience' required (in general they are v. happy with my work)

2. i would like to expand my experience into other realms--i've edited most every topic of academic books (incl marketing, sciences, medicine, humanities, literature...). how can i 'break' into web or magazine editing?

many thanks for your help!

oops
(that's 'branching' - not brancing. sorry!)
