Okay, for the past year or so, the only way I've been hearing about jobs in journalism is through mediabistro.com's job postings. But lately I've noticed that a lot of jobs posted here are expired! Why are employers posting jobs that they may have found people for already? Is it some kind of formality or something. This pisses me off because I feel like I'm wasting time writing cover letters for jobs that I can't possible get because they are closed! If that is what employers do with job positions, then is journalism job boards useless in looking and applying for work? If so, then how do I find journalism jobs without using the internet and without the so-called "networking" (I have no friends or colleagues in the journalism field). I need advice immediately? The only thing I hear of is informationals, but need clarity on what these are exactly?

It is mainly a formality on HR's part, but I've heard of some posters on here who have gotten interviews. I definitely would not depend on this site as your only means for finding job openings.

What kind of work are you looking for? Look at specific companies who will have their own career site with job openings. Find the names of editors/executives (again, this depends on what kind of work you're looking for) and request an informational interview. All this is, is a chance for you to sit down with someone and pick their brain about their job and the company. You can ask to leave your resume with them, but you should NOT be asking for a job, just information, as the term "informational interview" implies.

Try other sites
Try looking on other sites, like journalismjobs.com or ed2010.com; don't limit yourself to just one resource.

cause most media companies are laying off, not hiring.
