I started a copywriting business after years as a journalist, and I'm writing for websites and doing articles for a variety of clients. I've been approached by someone who wants me to ghostwrite a book for them, and I'm looking for any guidance on how to structure the deal and on how to figure out how much to charge.
It's a book about how to conduct high-end job recruiting in the financial services industry. The guy prefers to split the profits (if there are any!), but of course I'm going to tell him I need money up front. But how much? What do I base the amount on?

splitting the future profits is nice, but you need money up front.

that and part of the advance

These monkeys with great ideas have no appreciation what good writing entails.
