I think I've fallen into a rut after doing so much corporate writing. I want to get creative again, and am planning on using the upcoming summer weather as means to jolt my creative writing juices.

What do you do to get the creative writing process flowing, or gets you pumped up to pick up your pen?

I tried the Julia Cameron book, "The Artists Way," on the recommendation of a fellow writer, but didn't follow through. I couldn't get excited about the process.

Travel. Even if you can't go to Dublin like Bleak, take a Sunday drive into the country to witness a different way of life. Over the weekend, I went to upstate NY and witnessed very depressed old towns. Something about seeing that really inspired me.

I also found things that impede creativity: Marc Jacobs bags and Cole Haan shoes. Consumption deletes creativity.

I think you are absolutely right about consumption being a squelcher.

I am going to put a list together of little creativity excursions.

I really want to check out the Adirondacks.

Shooting golf balls into the cornfields of PA was a sure-fire creativity booster last summer. I may try it again.

Bleak, you brat. You know how much I want to go and can't afford to, considering the dollar is no longer almighty.

That was very hurtful.

I find that I get more inspired about writing by reading really good writing than reading books about writing (if that makes sense.)

I just finished "Lullaby," by Chuck Palahniuk - it came out a few years ago but it really made me want to write that noir that's been rattling around in my brain.

Good luck!

How about new subject matter? Or maybe poetry? Something completely different.
