I want to start doing some freelance writing again. I was a reporter briefly for a music newspaper and a business journal but eventually landed a teaching position at a local college. I miss writing terribly and would like to make a little extra money on the side. My problem is that my city sadly lacks a need for any writing. We have very few publications and the ones we do have are stocked full of ads. It is just not New York City. However, I don't plan to move anytime soon. The stuff I have found I enjoy writing about the most is sort of the twenty-somethings, personal narrative, expository type pieces. It would fit into the genre of this popular blog:http://thisfish.ivillage.com/love/, though my stories are very unique and personal. My teachers, friends, and local readers used to say I should have written the lines for Sex and The City.. gives you an idea of what I am trying to find. Anyone know of any online media or national magazines/newspapers I should try contacting and sending in clips to? I would appreciate any referrals. If you could e-mail me personally, that would be even more helpful. Thanks!

Hi, I am a young freelancer myself and have recently landed stories in women's lifestyle publications. I checked out the 'This Fish' blog, she is so likable.

If you care to share any of your work with me, maybe I can help you think of an outlet for it? In the meantime, have you started a blog?

Why don't you go to a large magazine store, spend some time and check out the national markets. Once you publish something on a blog, most magazines and newspapers will not want it.
