I pitched a story to a magazine almost 3 months ago. Since then, I feel like I am being yanked a bit. I would like to write this piece for this specific magazine, but how long are YOU willing to wait?

I know it's not uncommon for some people to hear back 6 months or more after pitching, but I have not come across this yet. Also, I think my story needs to be approved before a certain point to make it work.

Now, almost 3 months in, the company starts asking about my experience and a slew of other questions. I am not against answering questions, but sheesh.

Just wondering how long you'd be willing to wait... I guess I'm sort of annoyed.

I'm confused-- if this is a solid story idea, you've been pitching it elsewhere, correct? If it's not, you've been pitching other ideas to other places to pay the bills and put this in the deep freeze, correct?

This shouldn't be a question, really. You pitch as much as you can, to as many people as you can, as often as you can. If I were in your situation, I'd have pitched it and forgotten all about it until they come back to me, while I work on other stuff. If they answer out of the blue with some questions, I'd fire off a response and keep moving on. Invest no unnecessary time on anyone until you have a contract.

Thanks mkelly. I have been working on other things, but this one story... I think it's great, and these people have been yanking me. Well, today, they pulled the plug. Oh well... I guess I can move on with my life.

Thanks for the support.
