| miriamlwallace | Posted 5/15/2008 3:34:21 AM | show profile | email poster I am going to be in LA in June and will be working as a production assistant and visiting some production houses, meeting lots of influential people etc so I need to know what I should wear to give the right impression without looking like I am trying too hard!? |
| FamMan | Posted 5/15/2008 2:52:20 PM | show profile LA is very casual. It's definitely not a suit and sportcoat town. It's kind of a slippery slope because you are expected to dress fashionably, but without trying too hard. I hope that makes sense. |
| worldofnatasha | Posted 5/15/2008 3:05:59 PM | show profile are you a film/TV PA? if so -- jeans and a cool shirt (think $200 ironic tee shirts from Fred Segal) definitely better to be too casual than too formal. and film PAs need clothes that are comfortable enough to wear for 13+ hours, plus that can get dirty if you have to help carry heavy things, walk the actor's dog if he brings it to set, etc. if it's for magazines, I'm not sure... |

| Louisewasnothalfbad | Posted 5/15/2008 3:28:49 PM | show profile If you're actually working as a set PA, comfy shoes and a lot of sunscreen, if you're shooting outside. Meetings at production companies--nice top, not sexy, navel covered, jeans, cute shoes, but not stilettos. You're an assistant, so look like you're prepared and organized, but not uptight. Not a suit, maybe a jacket (June gloom means chilly mornings, but it burns off, and thus you'll have to peel off layers.) Decent purse, but it's not the touchstone that it is in NYC. Appearances here are tricky--the biggest slob in the room is often the boss. Things that look cheap are often very expensive. |
