| Guyarthurthomas | Posted 6/13/2008 5:30:25 PM | show profile Apparently then you are ignorant of the issue. There have been high profile media people who have gone as far as giving a date and location of the alleged comments. If you aren't even familiar with that then your complaint isn't even valid. |
| noname1234 | Posted 6/13/2008 5:39:53 PM | show profile Then educate me and simply give the name of these "high-profile media people" and a link so I can see the full context of their statements! |
| Guyarthurthomas | Posted 6/13/2008 5:55:52 PM | show profile Hey, "journalistic type" do your own homework. The information is available and not hard to find. I am not here to reward laziness. |
| chucho | Posted 6/13/2008 5:57:10 PM | show profile Lovely. Let me offer an analogy: Person #1: I think Geroge Bush fell on his face not from choking on a pretzel but from falling off the wagon and getting drunk while watching football. That's what I read. . . on the Internet tubes. Person #2: I don't think that's ever been substantiated. Person #1: Just because it hasn't been substantiated doesn't make it NOT true! Prove it! Viola! The art of arguing without evidence: say anything and place the burden of proof on the other team. PS: For once in my life I agree with Michelle Maglalang (her maiden, "too-ethnic-sounding-for-her-line-of-work" family name). She's right: fixating on innuendo robs from valuable time rooting out real dirt on the next First Lady. |
| zftcg | Posted 6/13/2008 6:13:29 PM | show profile noname, you clearly don't speak Guyese. As it happens, I do, so allow me to translate a la Barbara Billingsley in "Airplane": "Now" = one month ago "Reliable sources" = people who talked to other people who talked to a rabidly anti-Obama blogger, who then published those third-hand testimonials. "multiple sources" = another blogger on Johnson's site citing an infamous Republican dirty trickster who went on TV and repeated the rumor based on Johnson's initial blog post (nifty how that works, huh? it's like alchemy or something.) "high-profile media people" = a single blog post that has not been picked up by any mainstream news outlets, but has been debunked by Reason magazine blog and even disowned by Larry Johnson himself, who wrote, "We made the mistake of putting up the claims from Hillbuzz, but have no way of verifying Hillbuzz?s claim that it is a recording that features Michelle Obama with the wife of Louis Farrakhan. That is not what the sources who have seen the 'tape' have reported to me." Now is it clear, noname? |
| noname1234 | Posted 6/13/2008 6:35:23 PM | show profile thanks for the translation, zftcg It seems reading Larry Johnson's blog is essential to comprehending guyspeak, this this entire "story" rotates around that one blog. |
| Guyarthurthomas | Posted 6/14/2008 11:19:07 AM | show profile Take a little trip to Chicago and do some investigative journalism...you know, a "journalistic technique". All you have right now is what lazy people have, what you can conveniently find at your finger tips. Usually the best you will get with that kind of inept and lazy research is just what some of you all have, INTERNET sources. But alas, actually going to Chicago and doing some investigative journalism is of course out of the question. This is not to say you will discover the claim to be fact or fiction but you will discover in Chicago there are sources indicating strongly it exists, sources who STRONGLY support Obama. Again, that doesn't make it so but you ask why this is a legitimate topic of discussion? Because of this alone. We will see. |
| noname1234 | Posted 6/14/2008 1:35:22 PM | show profile Again, Guy, until you can say more than ominous statements about mysterious, anonymous "sources who say" -- then this remains nothing more than good, old-fashion fictional rumor-mongering to try to discredit a candidate you don't like. In this whole thread, you have refused to link to ONE SOURCE for your information, other than one blog post from Larry Johnson. Your refusal to cite your own sources or name names speaks volumes. Oh, but since you're not a "journalistic type," you're exempt from having to support anything you say with facts. It's everyone else's responsibility to spend their time and resources chasing this absolutely, 100% evidence-free rumor (a rumor that even in it's basic premise severely strains credibility), because Guythomas on a message board demands they do so. |
| Guyarthurthomas | Posted 6/14/2008 3:19:57 PM | show profile Well now you have spoken and said what you have to say...and so that is what a message board is about. I have things that interest me and things to say about the things that interest me. This interests me. I find MY sources credible...and again that does not mean I believe it to be a matter of fact or fiction. MY sources tell me there are reasons they believe it is true. They are far closer to the matter than I am and you are. Hearing this from Johnson simply adds to my suspicion. Larry published HIS sources so i cited him. Not everyone is at a place they can conveniently satisfy message board whiners and name THEIR sources. But let's see what happens. |
| chucho | Posted 6/15/2008 2:58:55 AM | show profile If it's true that John McCain threw a kitten out of a second story window while calling his wife a cunt, then that would make McCain look bad. "That's absurd." Well, absurd or not, if McCain tossed a kitten out of a second story window while calling his wife a cunt, I bet that would make your people sad that you didn't pick Romney. "Maybe, but, that's not true." Whatever, drink your Kool Aide. I read on this blog that McCain tossed a kitten out of a second story window while calling his wife a cunt. Believe what you want to believe. I guess we'll never know the truth, yet, but this guy on this blog says there a tape. "So what? Just because some guy on blog says MCain kills kittens. . ." Hey, it's not just him. There people out there talking, you know. "Yeah, but it's all part of this echo chamber created by the media, but made even stronger by the fact that anyone with a computer and Internet access can start a blog and say just about anything they want. If it was ever true that something becomes valid through repetition and cross referencing, it's become invalid in the day of instant communication with massive participation of the marketplace of ideas." What, are you trying to censor me because I don't see the world the way you do? That's just sooo typical! You go and believe your sources and I'll believe mine. I guess we'll have to wait to see what the truth is. . . but meanwhile, I'm going to keep talking about how McCain tossed a kitten out of a second story window while calling his wife a cunt. And if nothing comes of this rumor. . . POOF! It will be all in the past so we won't need to talk about it again or hold anyone accountable for participating in the echo chamber of misinformation and lies. |
| Queen Kong | Posted 6/15/2008 3:48:16 AM | show profile Well, I don't know if the tape exists or if the tape doesn't exist, but I do know this: all of you -- both proponent and debunker -- have given a lot of life to this thread. Maybe the universe is trying to tell all of you something? |
| Guyarthurthomas | Posted 6/15/2008 8:18:13 AM | show profile It is trying to tell those who are COMPLAINING about the ongoing discussion....look in the mirror, you're participating in the very thing you are complaining about. It is trying to tell me....don't expect anything more from libs but them practicing the very thing they are complaining about. |
| Stanley_Milgram | Posted 6/15/2008 9:50:00 AM | show profile I believe that the Weekly World News has reported that a spaceship has landed at the White House and the aliens have taken over the government. A tape is said to exist of this landing and clearly shows that the craft sports a "Ron Paul '08" bumper sticker. I haven't seen it, but if true, I think it will change the whole tenor of the election. |
| Gayarthurthomas | Posted 6/15/2008 12:42:53 PM | show profile Call it for what it is. Guy's a fucking idiot. |
| noname1234 | Posted 6/15/2008 1:54:21 PM | show profile I'm not sure what the "universe is telling us" through this thread. I do think that the subject of the method by which baseless rumors spread and can infect campaigns and distract of actual, pertinent issue is important. I also like calling out Guy for his various laughably false statements, such as: "high profile media people who have gone as far as giving a date and location of the alleged comments" or there are "increasingly weighty sources" backing this rumor Oh and for the record Guy? Just like you, Larry Johnson has NEVER named his sources for his "story" -- he claims that all his (vague and contradictory) information comes from sources to whom he has never ascribed one actual name. |
| Stanley_Milgram | Posted 6/15/2008 2:40:06 PM | show profile I have to agree with JohnnyBoy. Very succinctly put. |
| Guyarthurthomas | Posted 6/15/2008 3:01:59 PM | show profile Johnny Boy Posted ? 6/15/2008 12:42:53 PM | show profile Call it for what it is. Guy's a fucking idiot. _________________________________________ From the bright mind of a liberal mentality. But heh, please don't let me stop you libs from demonstrating your limited capacity for thought. |
| Guyarthurthomas | Posted 6/15/2008 3:12:20 PM | show profile Stanley_Milgram Posted ? 6/15/2008 7:13:53 AM | show profile Russert was a Bush lackey and a pretentious buffoon. Not serious enough character flaws to wish him dead, I grant you, but I wouldn't call it a loss for journalism either. Johnny Boy Posted ? 6/15/2008 12:38:06 PM | show profile Suck-up He's probably blowing Edward R. Murrow right now. __________________________________________ Yep, from the Tim Russert thread about his death...what do we get from LIBS? Typical extremism? But then again, don't let me stop you from showing your lack of class and respect. |
| Gayarthurthomas | Posted 6/15/2008 3:59:40 PM | show profile I'm a lib!? That's news to family and friends. I've voted Repub 5 of last 7 elections. More proof that Guy's a fucking idiot. |
| Guyarthurthomas | Posted 6/15/2008 4:15:22 PM | show profile Johnny Boy, you can vote however you wish, that still doesn't change the way you think ...and you buddy BOY, think like a lib as demonstrated with your posts....NEXT PLEASE! |
| Stanley_Milgram | Posted 6/15/2008 5:14:07 PM | show profile i guess you're either a lib or a fucking idiot. oh well. |
| Guyarthurthomas | Posted 6/15/2008 6:56:47 PM | show profile Well Stanley, it looks like you're in luck, it appears you are both! Hahahahahahahaha....Next Please! |
| Gayarthurthomas | Posted 6/15/2008 10:39:36 PM | show profile Guy is still a fucking idiot. |
| Stanley_Milgram | Posted 6/16/2008 6:38:08 AM | show profile Congrats on the nic change, Johnny. I finally understand what Guy is really asking for when he says "next please." |
| Guyarthurthomas | Posted 6/16/2008 7:45:51 PM | show profile Johnny Boy, you and Stanley make a fine couple. You two boys might want to head to California while you can and get married. |
