Where is the remotest place you have been? Northern British Columbia. Also, Cola de Caballo (Horsetail Falls) outside Monterrey Mexico) and even Roma, Texas, both felt pretty dang remote. 3. Have you ever had a hallucination? Yes, after being given steroids to make my unborn preemie baby's lungs practice harder. It was delightful -- very reaffirming, I felt 10-feet tall and bulletproof (lying, dying in my hospital bed) and felt a presence in the room. I thought it was an angel at the time -- my doc said it was a hallucination. 4. What are your favorite slang words or phrases? Cool. 5. Have you ever suffered from acne? Yes, as a teen, but not like some have suffered. 6. Have you ever placed the blame on someone and they took the fall for it? Not that I can recall. I hate it when that happens. 7. Have you ever felt true hatred for someone or something? Yes. Racism and child abuse are two very hot hot buttons for me. 8. What are your plans for the holiday weekend? Attend a national festival (work). Starting a volunteer project. And Monday is work as usual, someone's got to get next week's paper ready. 9. When are you neediest? Where is the remotest place you have been? Times Square. Really! When I'm alone some place I feel at one with nature and the world. When I'm in Times Square, I feel like I'm on a distant planet, disconnected from the world. 3. Have you ever had a hallucination? Yep. 4. What are your favorite slang words or phrases? No shit. Salluit, Quebec, a town of 500 at the Arctic Circle and/or Ko Phi Phi, a 90-minute boat ride off the southern coast of Thailand. 3. Success? 4. None. 5. Yes. 6. Probably. 7. Indeed. 8. Nothing big, shoulder still recovering and now fighting a cold. 9. When finances look shaky. But I agree about doctors who need to call back with results quickly. 10. A heavy-duty painkiller that zoned me out for all of Monday. BQ: Figure out the worst case scenario of each action to resolve it...and the worst case scenario of taking none at all, which is sometimes even worse. Find someone with the wisdom/experience/training to offer some useful insight. Hey, when are we doing RTQ drinks in the city? |

Growing up, my dad had a ranch in West Texas in the middle of nowhere- about an hour and a half from the already tiny town of Alpine. We would often get woken up by 1.) the sound of people from Mexico illegally banging on our gates looking for somewhere to go. 2.) mountain lions making noise 3.) bats. It was an interesting place. 3. Have you ever had a hallucination? Yep. When I was a teenager and got mono and a simultaneous infection (didn't realize I had either at the time), I saw little 4-inch-tall gnomes rapelling off my stomach and onto the floor. THat's when I went to my mom and said, something's wrong. I had a fever of 105.5. 4. What are your favorite slang words or phrases? I am not awake and can't think right now! What are your favorite slang words or phrases? As over-used as it has been, I still love MILF. "Oh no she di-int," cracks me up. "Check yourself before you wreck yourself," is funny but I don't think I can say it and not sound like a total dork. Oh and "Rock out with your cock out." 5. Have you ever suffered from acne? You know when you're working on a story and you've interviewed about 20 sources and you just keep going to get just one more angle, one more expert, a few more stats? Same thing. See my post about whether I should have a kid - I've asked everyone I know from strangers to relatives to best friends, read books, meditated. Why not ask total strangers on the internet? I did the same thing with our school conundrum. Got test scores, interviewed parents, visited schools, sent letters to lawmakers to approve a new charter school. |

A tiny old logging town in Oregon that was well over an hour from what is laughably considered civilization. Camping up in the Eastern Sierras felt pretty remote, too. Especially when my Jeep broke down. 3. Have you ever had a hallucination? Yes, a few times, but the first time was when two of my high school chums thought it would be funny to sqash me between them. I remember saying I couldn't breathe, then I woke up on the ground with the two of them in hysterics, holding me and asking me if I ate anything that day and asking me if I wanted a doctor. It felt like I'd been asleep for a decade and I had no idea where I was. When I was out, I was all over the place in some alternate life. It was truly strange. 4. What are your favorite slang words or phrases? I really like calling people jerk-asses when they piss me off. 5. Have you ever suffered from acne? no 6. Excellent mother; committed, loving wife; brilliant editor; all-around good, lovely, genuine person. 2. Where is the remotest place you have been? English countryside. It wasn't all that remote. 3. Have you ever had a hallucination? Yes, when I had a really high temperature once. 4. What are your favorite slang words or phrases? I say "ya know" a lot. Am also a fan of "that's bananas." 5. Have you ever suffered from acne? Had a horrible bout for fifteen years straight. Nothing seemed to help, including ProActiv. Finally took Acutane two years ago. That stuff is remarkable. Skin is absolutely flawless now. 6. Have you ever placed the blame on someone and they took the fall for it? Yes, with my kid brother growing up. 7. Have you ever felt true hatred for someone or something? I currently feel this way about my ex. 8. What are your plans for the holiday weekend? Getting out of the city for a few days. Where is the remotest place you have been? The john in the very last car of the morning train. Nobody goes there. 3. Have you ever had a hallucination? Twice in college I woke up parallized and forced down motionless onto the bed while lights spun around the room. For years I assumed this was an alien abduction but later learned it was a fairly common occurance called night parallysis. 4. What are your favorite slang words or phrases? I prefer the actual terms (more graphic) such as fornication, coitus, fellatio, etc. 5. Have you ever suffered from acne? Oh yes. 6. What do you hope will be your legacy? I am hoping to amass enough money that my nieces and nephews will be afraid to piss me off for fear of being written out of the will. Then, upon my death, I would leave everything to my cat and a huge court battle would erupt and drag on for years. Can you tell I watched too much Dynasty as a kid? I keep telling my niece that this scenario would be greatly helped along by her getting big hair and blue eyeshadow and playing her part properly. She said if I put in a pool, she would be willing to sleep with the pool boy and bring him as her inappropriate date to family events. 2. Where is the remotest place you have been? Winnipeg 3. Where is the remotest place you have been? Gosh, I don't travel too much. I guess into the Redwood Forest and feeling lost and found at the same time. 3. Have you ever had a hallucination? I woke up one night a few years ago with an enormous amount of light surrounding me in a pitch dark room. I felt a tremendous barrel of energy traveling through my abdomen, up through my chest and the bed seemed to rock as the energy rumbled through me. Once it passed, I heard a voice as clear as day telling me, "You have just received a universal blessing." It was such an incredible moment and no, I had not taken any drugs, or any drink prior to bed. At that point in my life, I was meditating often and had several close psychic friends. When I mentioned this to them, each agreed, I did receive a blessing. Who knows? I had major peace in my life for an extended time after that experience. Now, it's chaos, as usual. 4. What are your favorite slang words or phrases? I think I say OK more than I should. 5. Have you ever suffered from acne? Yes. 6. Oh, maybe as a kid, I blamed a sibling for something, but I don't recall it being a big deal with them or me getting punished. 7. Have you ever felt true hatred for someone or something? I try not to hate, but I can dislike things strongly. I dislike stingy people. I dislike those who like to make others feel inferior. I dislike people who go out of their way to be cruel to others. Where is the remotest place you have been? Kebler Pass in the Colorado Rockies The beach in winter in Montauk On a boat in the middle of the Atlantic 3. Have you ever had a hallucination? I'm not sure. Before going under anesthesia for surgery I remember seeing some really wild shit. Angels on the operating room walls and flying ice cream cones. I think I also hit on my doctor just before I went under. 4. What are your favorite slang words or phrases? Gobshite; and when I let loose a particularly odorous belch, I call it a smelch. Clever. 5. Have you ever suffered from acne? The usual teenage pustules. Once I had something come out of a pore that was as big a grain of rice and just as hard too. It was fascinating. 6.
