| newyorker | Posted 5/30/2008 4:33:01 PM | show profile Totally random topic but how do you get over a friend crush? He's definately not interested in me so disclosing my feelings is out of the question. Would prefer keeping him as a friend but can't seem to shake my feelings for him. Anyone else been through this? |
| beenthere | Posted 5/30/2008 4:49:07 PM | show profile Start dating other people. Get a new hobby. Join a club of some kind. Take a class. In other words, distraction, distraction, distraction. You need to focus your energy on someone/something else. |
| sue ellen mischke | Posted 5/30/2008 5:03:23 PM | show profile I totally agree with Been There. I have been trying to get over Bleak Spouse for years, so I found Stanley Milgram and realigned my attention and obsession... Try it! |
| observer | Posted 5/30/2008 7:53:04 PM | show profile he probably senses that you have a crush on him and he may even enjoy the attention. i agree with the other posters comments - distract yourself with other things and get involved in new groups to meet new people. have fun! |
| Nikongirl | Posted 5/30/2008 8:12:49 PM | show profile You might want to try and distance yourself a bit from this chum you have a crush on and see what happens. He will either try to draw you in closer, in which case you will at least have a hint that he adores you too or he will A: not notice B: show you he cares more than he lets on, guys are very good at that. C: you move on and find happiness elsewhere. Good luck..we have all been there. |
| writesonwater | Posted 5/31/2008 12:06:27 AM | show profile just about everyone has experienced unrequited affection. One thing that helped me was to realize that the fact that he doesn't care for me should make him unappealing to me. I think sometimes people do encourage friend crushes because they're flattering and they feel good. I knew two queen bee type girls in high school who loved having adoring guys on a string. Guys do the same thing. But people that do this are unlikely to fess up to it. |
| robbo | Posted 5/31/2008 1:03:54 AM | show profile sue ellen, you make me laugh! That's all, I just think you're funny. (and not in a sarcastic kind of way, just a really you made me laugh when I didn't expect it kind of way.) |
| UGoGirl | Posted 6/3/2008 12:15:40 AM | show profile How about trying to fool yourself into believing that he really wants to be with you, but you like him only as a friend... just pretend you might enjoy that role. |
