1. Do you know any true misanthropes?
Yes, at least one, if not several.

2. What has been your rock bottom?
I am an optimist, though there have been difficult times, rock bottom to me would be homeless, in poor health without friends or family.

3. Has a spouse or partner of a friend ever hit on you, and if so, how did you handle it?
No

4. Have you ever questioned your sexuality?
No

5. In what ways to you live "green?"
Recycle, reuse, compost, I ride a bike, turn off the water when brushing my teeth, sit down to shave my legs in the tub with just a dribble of water running instead of standing in a full blown shower. I do a lot of cleaning with vinegar
and baking soda.

6. Have you ever seen something in the sky such as a UFO, that you just couldn't explain?
Yes, several times. A few years ago coming back from Barbados at night, it was aprox. level with and east of the plane, a couple of enormous rectangular blasts of pure white light.

In July 1986 I saw a series of lights, about 12 to 15 of them, swirling around in the sky until they formed a row, wound into a spiral and vanished right before my eyes. I stood stark still in my backyard with my eyes opened as wide as they would go, going through a calm list of things that this was not. It was not a satellite, it was not weather balloons, it was not a plane, NOTHING in the world that I am aware of can move the way these things did. It was fascinating and exciting.

7. In what ways are you a freak?
I am a former hippy. Does that count?

8. What is the biggest risk you have taken this week?
I got nothing.

9. Do you think there someone at this very moment thinking about you?
Have no idea.

10. Are you presently keeping a juicy secret?
No

~Bonus Question~
Time for our random rant. What would you like to get off your chest?
Too tired. Going to catch some zzzzzzzz's. Nite.

Thanks Janet!

1. Do you know any true misanthropes? Maybe one. And one who puts on a darn good show.

2. What has been your rock bottom? Preemie baby desperately ill in hospital, 19-month-old son 10 hours away at home who hasn't seen me for two months. Basically like being drawn and quartered. Thank God we all survived.

3. Has a spouse or partner of a friend ever hit on you, and if so, how did you handle it? Yes. I rebuffed him and drifted away from both of them.

4. Have you ever questioned your sexuality? No.

5. In what ways to you live "green?" Drive as little as possible. Use as few resources as possible (conserving water and energy). Recycle.

6. Have you ever seen something in the sky such as a UFO, that you just couldn't explain? No.

7. In what ways are you a freak? I need to know more than most people. I'm very curious. My brain works fast.

8. What is the biggest risk you have taken this week? I put seven stories with the same theme on the front page of the weekly paper.

9. Do you think there someone at this very moment thinking about you? It's the middle of the night. I hope those who might otherwise think of me are getting some sleep.

10. Are you presently keeping a juicy secret? Sure.

~Bonus Question~
Time for our random rant. What would you like to get off your chest? I don't think states should deny students diplomas just because they don't pass a certain set of standardized tests. If the student has jumped through every hoop asked of them, passed all classes, etc., give them a diploma. Specify with a star on the diplomas of those who have passed the exit level standardized tests if you wish.

Although me and everyone in my immediate family does very well on tests, there are those who, for whatever reason, do not. I think it's barbaric to keep a student off the grad platform for a few lousy test points. That's the way to turn people OFF life-long learning, if you ask me.

1. Do you know any true misanthropes?

No.

2. What has been your rock bottom?

While I've had some catastrophic illnesses that I thankfully recovered from, I don't consider those episodes in my life as being "rock bottom." Being an optimist, as of the present moment, I haven't hit rock bottom yet, and I hope I never do.

3. Has a spouse or partner of a friend ever hit on you, and if so, how did you handle it?

GREAT QUESTION JBE!

Never discussed this with anyone and all these years later I still have misgivings about how I handled this situation.

Way, way, way, back in time, when I was a teenage, while I was dating my husband, this gal's fiance hit on me. I was offended and told him politely to get lost. To this day I regret never telling her about what happened because she was really lovely. She later married him and had a son with him. Shortly after their son was born, the dirtbag took off. She raised the son with the help of her family. A few years ago she remarried and I've heard that she is now happy and her son, now a young adult, is also happy.

I've reflected on this episode so many times in the past and have always wondered whether she knew before she married him that he was a dirtbag. I wonder, from time to time, if I had said something to her whether she would change her mind about him. As I've aged, I've tried to be kinder to myself for making that decision at such a tender age. How many of us do speak up to our friends and families and yet they still choose the wrong decision?

4. Have you ever questioned your sexuality?

No.

5. In what ways do you live "green?"

I don't. Sorry.

6. Have you ever seen something in the sky such as a UFO, that you just couldn't explain?

I have and couldn't, but since I know TWO theoretical physicists, they've done an awfully good job of trying to explain things to me.

7. In what ways are you a freak?

Being on this message board and being a Republican.

8. What is the biggest risk you have taken this week?

I got in my friend's car not knowing what a lousy driver she was. And then I did it again because I still had to get home.

9. Do you think there is someone at this very moment thinking about you?

This early in the morning, no. By 10 AM someone will, because by then, someone will ask for something from me.

10. Are you presently keeping a juicy secret?

Yep.

Life is good!

radom tuesday question answers submitted from moscow
1. Do you know any true misanthropes?
oh yes

2. What has been your rock bottom?
I am an optimist always so i believe I've never hit it an never will

3. Has a spouse or partner of a friend ever hit on you, and if so, how did you handle it?
no and if I would leave that second and never come back. thats something one can never forgive or explain. and no one should accept an apology for this behavior.

4. Have you ever questioned your sexuality?
no

5. In what ways to you live "green?"
many, don't have a car, buy bio/organic/trade fair or better local products, no water which has traveled more then keep a keen eye on construction materials, overall very very green lifestyle, one should do it for oneself, its so much better!

6. Have you ever seen something in the sky such as a UFO, that you just couldn't explain?
no

7. In what ways are you a freak?
not enough space here and I don't want to bore everyone to death. if you would ask my husband, he thinks I am an alien landed on earth from space because I don't sweat, don't need to go to bathroom and have in his opinion no laundry.

8. What is the biggest risk you have taken this week?
bought a house while watching a focus group in Moscow? I guess that qualifies as risk.

9. Do you think there someone at this very moment thinking about you?
yes, i know several people for different reasons. my mom because she's afraid due to the fact that I am again in a far away city, my hubby for thinking when i will come home, my clients who are not here hoping I'll do my job well.

10. Are you presently keeping a juicy secret?
no, I wish!

~Bonus Question~
Time for our random rant. What would you like to get off your chest?
I hate hate hate hate hate hate my clients. and other peoples clients. Why do you have to be a jerk for no reason? you don't know me, never have met me before, don't know anything about me, and I am smiling at you, and trying to do my job politely. I am really sorry for your miserable life, but if you enter a room and I say "hello how are you" why do you feel it is necessary to hiss a command at me without even saying hello? and that qualifies as a minor incident.

correction to 3. multi-tasking is only for those who can

I read the question as 'has ever anyone hit you'...

after reading everyones responses - which I only do after submitting mine to not be influenced - I realized it was 'hit on" as in trying to make out....

yes has happened often, and I always pretend not to notice, and then have the problem how to not let my friend now it had happened. Thanks good none of my girlfriends decided to marry one of those jerks.

1. Do you know any true misanthropes?
That would be me, but I control it when necessary with the appropriate amount of existentialism about the whole thing.

2. What has been your rock bottom?
When I drank Datura-seed tea and almost stopped breathing, deep in hallucinations, alone in an apartment after being dumped by a wonderful women for being an idiot.

3. Has a spouse or partner of a friend ever hit on you, and if so, how did you handle it?
Yes, but they were in an open relationship. The problem was: I wasn't. Added to that problem: my girlfriend was in an open relationship with me without exactly being clear about that, and made out with the husband of the woman I reject a few days earlier. I really regret it because the woman was a hot (India) Indian gal.

4. Have you ever questioned your sexuality?
In early early 20s. Experimented with it, which only served to strengthen my hetero resolve.

5. In what ways to you live "green?"

Nope.

7. In what ways are you a freak?
I'd have to think about that for a while.

1. Do you know any true misanthropes? One or two

2. What has been your rock bottom? Personally, it's right now, but I can't complain too much. Mid-life crisis, can't find steady work, questioning longterm relationship.... but I'm healthy for the most part, have a roof over my head, and a family that loves me. This too, shall pass.

3. Has a spouse or partner of a friend ever hit on you, and if so, how did you handle it? No.

4. Have you ever questioned your sexuality? Nope.

5. In what ways to you live "green?" Started bringing my own bags to the store, will be replacing gas lawn mower with the reel kind in the next week or so, some composting, but I could definitely be greener.

6. Have you ever seen something in the sky such as a UFO, that you just couldn't explain? No

7. In what ways are you a freak? Atrocious housekeeper. Deep, abiding, over-the-top love for my pets (to the detriment of current relationship).

8. What is the biggest risk you have taken this week? Procrastinating when I really can't afford to.

9. Do you think there someone at this very moment thinking about you? Possibly.

10. Are you presently keeping a juicy secret? No, the cat is out of the bag.

~Bonus Question~
Time for our random rant. What would you like to get off your chest? I'm really afraid I'm turning into a crazy old cat and dog lady. Just can't seem to get my life on track. Scared sh!#less.

1. Do you know any true misanthropes?

Sometimes the husband is one.

2. What has been your rock bottom?

No real rock bottom - as Nikon said, it would have to be homeless, drug addicted, living on the streets sort of thing.

3. Has a spouse or partner of a friend ever hit on you, and if so, how did you handle it?

No.

4. Have you ever questioned your sexuality?

Not really. I kind of wanted to have a lesbian encounter in college just because that's the kind of thing you do in college, but realized that it really didn't turn me on.

5. In what ways to you live "green?"

Some CF bulbs, recycle, compost yard waste, walk lots of places instead of driving, reuse lots of stuff, buy used clothing and furntiture at salvation army, donate stuff we don't need vs. trash it, use cloth bags vs. plastic for most purchases, keep heat low in winter, put on AC rarely.

6. Have you ever seen something in the sky such as a UFO, that you just couldn't explain?

No. I wish I had.

7. In what ways are you a freak?

VR: I can't believe it! A republican?? :)

I'm a little OCD - have to be early, get really freaked out if I'm late/lost. I once had a massive panic attack - hysterically crying, screaming, banging the dashboard, hyper ventilating when the husband and I were late, running out of gas and lost for an awards dinner (ironically he was getting an award from a mental health group for a story he wrote.)

8. What is the biggest risk you have taken this week?

Yesh. Nothing. How lame.

9. Do you think there someone at this very moment thinking about you?

Maybe my parents.

10. Are you presently keeping a juicy secret?

Yes.

~Bonus Question~
Time for our random rant. What would you like to get off your chest?

WHat a good time for this!!! Just before I checked RTQ I was calling Mattel to RAGE at the fact that they are making toys tied to the new Batman Dark Knight movie for FOUR YEAR OLDS!!!!! Why are they making a toy for a preschooler that is tied to a PG-13 movie???

This makes me insane with rage - I mean, I am literally shaking. Yes, of course, it is primarily the parent's responsiblitiy to say No you can't go to the movie but ... why are there Indiana Jones toys in BK kids meals? Why do Iron Man t-shirts come in size 3t.

Shameless money grubbing bastards.

1. Do you know any true misanthropes?
Eh, not really

2. What has been your rock bottom?
a few years ago was awful- lost my job, my dad died and my roommate was horrible and just got out of a long-term relationship. I have never felt worse.

3. Has a spouse or partner of a friend ever hit on you, and if so, how did you handle it?
I did, but played it off as innocent flirting and walked away. I sad things in a way that made it clear it was unacceptable, but made it not make a scene.

4. Have you ever questioned your sexuality?
nope

5. In what ways to you live "green?"
live in a much smaller place than we could afford, drive as little as possible, buy local produce if possible, use energy-efficient appliances, never turn lights on unless necessary, never wash clothes in anything other than cold water, don't use paper plates, etc., and work for an environmental nonprofit.

6. Have you ever seen something in the sky such as a UFO, that you just couldn't explain?
yes

7. In what ways are you a freak?
ha, in what ways am I NOT a freak!

8. What is the biggest risk you have taken this week?
has to do with some family crap.

9. Do you think there someone at this very moment thinking about you?
yes- but likely in a bad way

10. Are you presently keeping a juicy secret?
nope

~Bonus Question~
Time for our random rant. What would you like to get off your chest?
I hate this medication I am on. It has AWFUL side effects....but it works. Sigh.

Publicity Chick- I bet you saw heat lightning. WHen I lived in San ANtonio, we saw it all the time- flashes of all sorts of colors- blue, red, purple, green. It was fascinating.

1. Do you know any true misanthropes? Does Bleak count?
A friend's husband has been in law enforcement a long time, and I get the distinct impression that he thinks all people are evil and up to no good at all times. He often sees bad things in people who I never would suspect as deviant.

2. What has been your rock bottom? I don't think I've ever hit it, really. I've never been homeless, drug addled or seriously desperate.

3. Has a spouse or partner of a friend ever hit on you, and if so, how did you handle it? It's happened a few times, and the last one was a little unsettling. I was friendly with a former neighbor, as she was close to my age and we had a lot of common interests. She and her husband had me over to dinner when my spouse was on a business trip. Her husband made a pass when she was out of the room. I calmly rebuffed him, but never said anything to her. I didn't know them well enough to cause a ruckus over his behavior, so after the dinner I just kept the relationship as a casual, "wave when you see them on their lawn," sort of thing. I imagine it had him sweating for awhile, wondering if I was going to tell her.

4. Have you ever questioned your sexuality? Nope.

5. In what ways to you live "green?" I ride my bike a lot, recycle, drive a fuel-efficient car, purchase products that are green, planted lots of trees, given to charities and orgs that promote green living, support sustainable farming, have written about sustainable farming practices. I think our family lives pretty low impact. We only have one car, the husband takes the train or carpools to work.

6. Have you ever seen something in the sky such as a UFO, that you just couldn't explain? I once saw this white, glowing balloon thing, but later found out it was some military experimental vessel. It looked pretty eerie, I must admit.

7. In what ways are you a freak?
I can't STAND stains on my clothes. If I can't get a stain out, it goes off to Good Will. I probably bathe more often than I need to, but I hate to stew in my own juices. Carpeting grosses me out.

8. What is the biggest risk you have taken this week? Pitched a pretty lengthy idea to a client and was pretty forceful with getting an answer by the end of the week. It worked, although now I have to work all weekend with him to get the project going.

9. Do you think there someone at this very moment thinking about you? Probably my mom.

10. Are you presently keeping a juicy secret?
Yes, one humongous whopper from someone who really should know about it, but it isn't my place to say, so I'm resentfully keeping my mouth shut.

~Bonus Question~
Time for our random rant. What would you like to get off your chest?
I can't get over how mean some children can be to their peers. Both of my children have told me things that their classmates have said to them that are cruel and horrible. I want to tell their parents what little beasts they are raising, but instead I have to tell my children how to handle people who are cruel and rude for no obvious reason. All I can do is try my damndest to equip my kids with enough self esteem to see through the bullshit. People around here are so stupidly competitive, and their children are little sponges for the bad behavior. It just seems like such a miserable existance to always be on the offense, and to take pleasure in hurting other people's feelings.
And, I've noticed that the meanest kids in the bunch are the ones whose parents are so wrapped up in their careers that they don't even bother to be a present parent. It makes me wonder what these kids are going to be like when they are adults. Probably as emotionally vacant as their parents are now.

that sounds about right! it was so beautiful. i credit it with keeping me awake on that long lonely drive through rural america with no radio either. it was so beautiful to look into the distance down the road and see it on the horizon. i haven't seen it in the 11 years since college.

It's pretty, isn't it? I am not 100% sure that "heat lightning" is the right name, but that's what I've heard it called. Just looks sort of like blurred, dry lightning without rain.

1. Do you know any true misanthropes?
I have known a few of these people--mostly men--who hate everyone and everything (and then there was the suicide.)

2. What has been your rock bottom?
I am not going to share the specific story. But I pulled myself out, without rehab or any life-altering nonsense. Now I can chalk it up to being young and living the nightlife scene in NY.

3. Has a spouse or partner of a friend ever hit on you, and if so, how did you handle it?
Yes. When I was young. And it was my sister's now husband. I cried to my then bf. I never told her even though we are best friends and super close. Wow, I cant believe I told that to anyone.

4. Have you ever questioned your sexuality?
My aunt is a lesbian, so I think just that makes you "question." One time, while in a "couples" situation, the chick tried to go from guy to me. It totally freaked me out and was not the least bit sexy. Sorry ladies, but I just don't think I am gay.

5. In what ways to you live "green?"
I ride my bike everywhere. I order CSA boxes in the summer. I recycle clothes. I have anxiety about wasting anything.

6. Have you ever seen something in the sky such as a UFO, that you just couldn't explain?
No.

7. In what ways are you a freak?
Designs must be symmetrical. When I clean, I toothbrush clean. About organization.

8. What is the biggest risk you have taken this week?
I texted with this guy that I met sailing. And my bf was right there. Not that it was romantic (it was a little flirty)--but this guy has no idea that I have a live-in bf. Did I forget to mention that? He wants me to meet him out tonight. Lord, help me.

9. Do you think there someone at this very moment thinking about you?
I hope so!

10. Are you presently keeping a juicy secret?
See # 8! I actually have lots of secrets in my closet. And people always tell me more cause I am like a vault. OK, so lots of times I just kind of forget!

~Bonus Question~
Time for our random rant. What would you like to get off your chest?
I have been working at this bar for the past year, saving while I work on my book and freelance. Now, my bf has been out of work for two months and the bar is totally going downhill. Money sucks. I feel like the economy is sucking the business down even more. UGGGG. What do I do in economic meltdown? What do we all do?

1. Do you know any true misanthropes?
Just a pseudo-misanthrope because he thinks it's cool.

2. What has been your rock bottom?
Most of 2007 and part of 2008. I still can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, but I'm almost certain that I will catch a glimpse of it before the end of the summer.

3. Has a spouse or partner of a friend ever hit on you, and if so, how did you handle it?
Yes. He was very drunk and came out of the bathroom with his junk exposed asking me to touch it. I told him to pull up his pants or I would video him on my phone and post it on You Tube. He had no memory of it the next day and the issue was never spoken of again. My friend dumped him shortly thereafter.

4. Have you ever questioned your sexuality?
Not really. Like Groove, I think women are beautiful but I too am a penis-loving girl. Although I kind of have a girl crush on Sade Bederinwa from Channel 7 news.

5. In what ways to you live "green?"
I don't eat meat, I recycle, don't buy products that are overpackaged in plastic, take short showers, and try to control the methane output of my dogs by feeding them non-gassy foods.

6. Have you ever seen something in the sky such as a UFO, that you just couldn't explain?
I was driving home one night and saw what I thought was a small plane which appeared to be crashing into the water near my house. I called the police and Coast Guard who sent out a search team, but they found nothing. I clearly saw some flying thing and it clearly crashed. They thought I was just a nut.

7. In what ways are you a freak?
My freak flag has been flying at half-mast lately but I love the smell of paper and prefer to smell books and magazines rather than actually read them. I've been known to lick the pages.
I find veiny arms on men insanely sexy. Not junkie arms, but ropey veins that snake down to the hands.
I've been tempted to eat a scab from a healing wound. It looks like beef jerky.
I want to lick Montel Williams' bald head.

8. What is the biggest risk you have taken this week?
I answered an online personal ad. I received a wonderful response from the gentleman and right now my stomach is aflutter. I've never done that before. I shall proceed with due caution though.

9. Do you think there someone at this very moment thinking about you?
Not likely.

10. Are you presently keeping a juicy secret?
Yes indeed.

~Bonus Question~
Time for our random rant. What would you like to get off your chest?
I don't like summer at all. Never have, never will.
I have no idea what to do with my life and sit here day after day spinning my wheels.
I am dismayed at how wide spread alcoholism and drug abuse is.
People that abuse their animals should be drawn and quartered.
I'm tired of being on call almost every fucking night of the week as an EMT and can't find anyone to cover my shifts.
My parents cause me great distress and they are coming for a visit this weekend.
I hate it when the sticky glue of a maxi pad gets stuck to your hair down there and you have to yank it off.
That's all for now.

Hey JBE, GREAT Q's this week!
Mag Girl Posted – 6/5/2008 1:04:08 PM | show profile
Janet- good for you for jumping into online dating! It's actually fun if you look at it as purely recreational, and anything good that comes of it is just gravy. It's like shopping for men.

And your "freak" answers made me laugh. High-five for the freaks! Oh, I forgot a freak answer- if I have socks on, I CANNOT put my shoes on unless I fold over the sock seam onto the top of my foot. otherwise I will squirm all day.

1. Do you know any true misanthropes? -- No, not complete misanthropes, but some who come awfully close to it.

2. What has been your rock bottom? -- Day of my divorce, eleven and half years ago. I was driving back to NY from GA, two young kids in tow, on New Year's Eve. We stopped for the night in NC, and I wanted a glass of wine with dinner to celebrate the New Year and I guess, in a way, my divorce. But it was a dry county. I was so depressed from the whole divorce thing that it set me off on a crying jag. I don't think I've ever been that low before or since.

3. Has a spouse or partner of a friend ever hit on you, and if so, how did you handle it? -- Well, a friend of my ex spouse hit on me while I was still married. I was never sure if my ex set him up to it to get some trash on me, or gave him the OK because he was fooling around himself and wanted to distract me. He was cute, but also married. I didn't bite.

4. Have you ever questioned your sexuality? -- No.

5. In what ways to you live "green?" -- I recycle as much as my town will take...glass, paper, plastic, cans. I buy environmentally safe cleaning products as much as possible. I'm trying to reduce gas consumption, but with a brand new 16 year old driver, it's hard. I take mass transit to work. (My company is having a seminar next week on this and the plan is to take the company green, too.)

6. Have you ever seen something in the sky such as a UFO, that you just couldn't explain? -- No, but my son says he has.

7. In what ways are you a freak? -- I like science fiction.

8. What is the biggest risk you have taken this week? -- Relied on my daughter to pick me up from the bus. She's always late.

9. Do you think there someone at this very moment thinking about you? -- Doubt it.

10. Are you presently keeping a juicy secret? -- Nope.

~Bonus Question~
Time for our random rant. What would you like to get off your chest? -- Everyday things that bug me: People who cut in front of you, be it walking, driving, or in a line. People who don't say thanks when you do them a favor. People who interrupt when you are replying to a question. People who are blatant hypocrites. I experience these things EVERYDAY, and find they do more to ruin my usual positive mood than anything else.
