I'm applying for a job online, but after I've attached my resume, a page appears asking me to upload any attachments such as references and writing samples. Should I attach writing samples now or wait until they contact me if they're interested? I'm a little leery of just sending out my writing if I don't have control over who may receive it.

Re: Writing samples for online application
Assuming it's a reputable company, I'd say just send it. As a recruiter who has also worked on the corporate side, the only time I'd see contacting someone who applied with an incomplete application would be if I had no other viable candidates. So unless you think no one else (good) is going to apply, then I wouldn't risk it. That said, I don't know of any cases where a hiring manager has taken the time to put up a job posting (for which--if it's a corporation--s/he had to get an approved requistion), all with the intent of gathering candidate writing materials to copy or rip-off. It's really about getting a sense for your writing style and using that as part of the decision about whether or not to bring you in for an interview... incomplete applications rarely get followed up on.
