| alim20 | Posted 6/10/2008 7:27:07 PM | show profile | email poster Posted ? 6/10/2008 7:06:57 PM | show profile | email poster Leaving Schofield Was a Dumb Decision Schofield Media is the last stable good paying job I have had now since resigning from the company last year in March. I left over reasons I now admit are petty and stupid and clearly proof of my lower intelligence and lack of vision and faith. While I was employed at schofield I never could rest at night thinking about the ruthless capitalistic genius of Andrew Schofield. Everynight I kept saying to myself this british dude turned 10,000 into 40 million in less than 5 years. He bleeds red just like me so why can't I do what he did? I envied his success and grew jealous that a man could apply his time and energy and human creative powers to build something so profitable and my share of his estate was a petty 30000 a year plus maybe 1200 a month in extra commissions. Every month I would look at my total sales 34000 and say to myself I am getting only 3000 of that and this lucky bastard is getting THE REST. I lost perspective on life and how I was supposed to learn from Schofield the basics of business so that maybe some time in the future I too could start a business and duplicate Schofields tactics. I complained to myself about how 30000 a year was low pay, but did I ask myself how much does schofield pay on raw materials for fine paper, 200 plus editorial and sales staff, computers equipment, taxes, and how much does he lose every year paying inferior sales people like myself who did not come to work and put in an honest days effort because 40% of the time I was calculating other peoples commission the moment they put a sale for 14000 on the board. I could go on but it is point less. I am reading think and grow rich and in that book it talks about how luck can have a lot to do with a man's success and I think failing to maximize my expereince with this future titan of publishing proves I failed to take advantage of the luck god gave me when I was hired with little expereince. Since I have left I have started and ran my own somewhat shady business where I still make the same money but there is not one minute of the day I sit in a comfy chair and waste time and still can say I am making money. Every minute I am working to the point of exhaustion, every sale is critical, the stress spoiled CEO's would give me over the phone at Schofield is nothing compared to coming home each night thankful to god I was not arrested or robbed at gunpoint during my latest workday grinding away on the tough streets of Chicago. Schofield was an easy 30k an easy 45k had I just put my nose down and focused on the task at hand. If I had to be critical of anything its that I would of appreciated my time there more if only we got more chances to hear from Andrew Schofield in person. Chris Schofield barely spoke to us and employed managers who were more like dictators then inspiring life changing leaders. Hard to be motivated when your manager only advises you to make 160 calls a day instead of 140 calls. All my life I have been drawn to charismatic leaders who give rousing speeches and push me directly to seize my potential. Schofields genius is he really is making money and he does not have to interact with the worker ants like that and the truth is its not worth his time. I was easily replacable and the ruthless fact of all is that 30k base salary was generous considering their training program could take a ditch digger and teach him how to create the sales numbers I arrogantly assumed only I could bring the company. |

| alim20 | Posted 6/10/2008 8:37:38 PM | show profile Schofield Media is a advertising and publishing company in Chicago with a controversial business modul. There is a longer thread about the company below this thread in which I first shared negative things about the firm and now I am just giving my two cents 1 year later after having resigned. They paid great money and I blew it, and cant seem to regain my losses. Type Andrew Schofield in google and read articles about the firm. |
| alim20 | Posted 6/10/2008 10:13:35 PM | show profile | email poster What is Schofield Media Schofield Media is Mcdonalds, Google, Microsoft, name a US company personifying the American dream and you know what the company is. I took a risk that I could be better off trying to do what the CEO did from scratch and have failed miserably. Just as tobacco products and fancy new presribed medications often have warning labels and disclaimers for idiots foolish enough to consume or try their products, I think too much reading and focus on self help anthony robbins type mumbo jumbo and bold attempts at entreprenuerism without reading the disclaimers of reality showcasing the horror stories from failed attempts at building empire gave me a false impression of how easy it would be to survive on my own. If your about to quit your day job David to compete with the googles, microsofts, mcdonalds of the world, do yourself a favor and don't start your impossible crusade with 5 hard stones of big balls and funds earned from a couple big commission checks from Goliath. I thought the Iraqi's were stupid to resist the US then one day I woke up got my own taste of the shock and awe asswhiping you get when you try to compete with the real hustlers of greenbacks. Saddaam went from the palace to the dirt hole and I went from nice posh apartments to slum lords house across the street from crack dealers. |
| ferdinand | Posted 6/10/2008 10:51:38 PM | show profile wow. sorry. |
| Mag Girl | Posted 6/11/2008 12:06:56 AM | show profile Why'd you start a whole new thread with the same post after posting in the other one? |
| sophiesMOM | Posted 6/11/2008 10:09:11 AM | show profile alim20, i think you're giving schofield way too much credit, and yourself not enough. pick your chin up. have confidence in your abilities. they are not the only company in the world in which you can succeed. do not lament about what you perceive as lost opportunities. that will only drag you down. look forward to the possibilities that your experiences will offer you. good luck. |
| WordyBird | Posted 6/11/2008 10:16:24 AM | show profile Sniff, sniff... I smell a fake post. There is another thread with a heated discussion of Schofield. I think this is meant as a stab at the critics and nothing more than a viral attempt by someone still in Schofield to get the company's two cents in. It sure looks that way. |
| SPF 30 | Posted 6/11/2008 10:23:48 AM | show profile Ha ha ha! Now go away. This is so blatantly a fake post! |
| RockinRonD | Posted 6/11/2008 10:29:17 AM | show profile | email poster Agree with Wordy...this post from Alim20 is obviously a construct meant to shade favor and good light on an otherwise innocuous publishing company that has come under scrutiny on these boards. Some people just need lives to lead. |
| Mag Girl | Posted 6/11/2008 10:51:09 AM | show profile Wordy- That's what I was getting at. It completely seems like a plant. |
| Bleak Spouse | Posted 6/11/2008 11:03:54 AM | show profile alim: I think the only solution to this problem is for you to kill yourself. Let me know if you need money to buy a rope or an old rusty revolver. |
| Mag Girl | Posted 6/11/2008 11:12:28 AM | show profile Bleak, you're funny. :) |
| Village Gal | Posted 6/11/2008 11:41:25 AM | show profile I agree- this is fake post. Do you really think we are that gullible? And if it is true, which I doubt, the writer sounds pathetic. |
| wineaux | Posted 6/11/2008 1:15:59 PM | show profile Oh, come ON! I am so friggin' tired of people planting posts on here. These corporations really need to find more constructive things for their interns to do in the summer. |
| dribbledrive1 | Posted 6/11/2008 3:19:25 PM | show profile The funny thing is the post doesn't even make Scofield look particularly good or bad -- if someone is trying to influence my opinion about the company, it didn't work.. It just makes it seem like the original poster is an immature dolt. -- I smell a fake post. There is another thread with a heated discussion of Schofield. I think this is meant as a stab at the critics and nothing more than a viral attempt by someone still in Schofield to get the company's two cents in. It sure looks that way.-- |
| Homer | Posted 6/11/2008 3:39:48 PM | show profile If the company's behind this as a way to put them in a better light, don't you think they'd get someone with a better grasp of grammar, spelling, etc.? I think this guy really is beating himself up over striking out on his own, which is a complete waste of time. He sounds very young, and only time will give him the perspective he needs. We're all shaped by the experiences in our lives, and this one will help create his character. He just needs to stop wallowing now, pick himself up and carry on. (And stop giving so much attention to what appears to be a company with questionable practices.) |
| Bleak Spouse | Posted 6/11/2008 9:48:20 PM | show profile on the slim chance that it is a real post, i hope he didn't take my advice and blow his brains out. |
| wineaux | Posted 6/12/2008 8:48:40 AM | show profile I find it very telling that the OP hasn't responded to our claims of falsehood. I don't understand why so many people spend so much time on this site planting posts. What do they hope to accomplish? |
| alim20 | Posted 6/13/2008 9:43:19 AM | show profile | email poster Not a fake post Guys this is not a fake post. Also this was embarrassing but anyone who knows me knows I post honest stuff on the internet. When I am not working I write and perform poetry. myspace.com/jusrhymzslams is my website as proof of that. And to the poster who joked suicide is the answer, been there done that. 2 weeks ago as a matter of fact. I took 300 anti psychotic pills and miraculously I did not die. I took that as a huge clue that god is not done with me yet. As for the bad grammer and spelling, I am not perfect and even though I have a degree in journalism I never once said I was employed as a talented writer and reporter. So far, I have proved to be a talented orator and speaker when performing. I had mainly 2 post here, the first one kinda had critical things to say about schofield, the second was years later after rethinking about my decision to leave. Both should give people a better understanding of what its like to work there at least on the sales side. Peace and blessings, Alim. |
| alim20 | Posted 6/13/2008 9:49:29 AM | show profile | email poster why 2 posts? I posted the response in another thread because that is where I posted the first complaint, and i started this thread to begin a new and separate discussion and topic because the other is more a thread about people who are writers that want to work there or people who are sales people and looking for a job. I think my post was buried 3 pages into it and I am tired of getting emails from people high fiving me after reading about my complaints. I am getting calls from vendors asking me for the presidents direct line just to complain to him. its annoying especially since I dont sympathize with CEOS who could just hang up when sales people call. The least they could do is offer to buy such private information from me if they want it that bad. Anyway I am done, hope that answers your questions. this website is not on my daily to check list. |
| RockinRonD | Posted 6/13/2008 10:33:19 AM | show profile | email poster I still think Mr. Alim20 is yanking our collective chain. Seems to me taking 300 pills of anything would pretty much do the trick. Unless, of course, you used them as an enema. How fitting that would be. |
| mkelly | Posted 6/13/2008 12:05:41 PM | show profile Alim20, Actually, I agree with you 100 percent-- you do indeed seem stupid, stupid, stupid, and drawn to authority figures who succeed where you seem to fail. I buy it. And considering your that your post reads like a passage from Ulysses put through a spell-check that uses the Mongolian dictionary, I bet Schofield Media isn't missing you. Anyway, that's not my point. Someone did say one telling thing: "If your about to quit your day job David to compete with the googles, microsofts, mcdonalds of the world..." Here's the poop, folks: Google, Microsoft and McDonald's all succeeded because when they started, there were no other Googles, Microsofts and McDonalds to compete against. Remember that in your various quests to conquer the world. Also remember that it helps to write well and have no soul. You'll go far. |
| sophisticate77 | Posted 6/13/2008 1:59:34 PM | show profile | email poster You need to seek some serious help Alim...you quite obviously need help that cannot be provided to you by the people on this thread, unless Mediabistro is now a forum for professionals in the field of psychiatry. But here?s my two cents anyway? If you didn't burn any bridges at Schofield, reapply. If you did, find another job and make the most of it. Chicago is a large city with many great opportunities. If you were enterprising enough to get the job at Schofield, I?m sure you will find another HR rep in a compassionate mood. Another thing, are you out there looking, or are you too busy feeling sorry for yourself? If you?re downing anti-depressants, you?re probably busy with the latter. Stop thinking about what you lost, start thinking about what you want, and go for it. Take it from someone who was unemployed for three months after quitting a job that paid VERY well ? a diligent job search will turn up something. Just search. All in all, Alim, what you want to stop doing is posting your personal information on the Internet (i.e. suicide attempts) for either good counsel, or sympathy. Seek some professional help instead, my friend, and move on. |
| Gayarthurthomas | Posted 6/13/2008 9:35:37 PM | show profile jeezus So you fucked up. Get over it, quit whining, and get on with your life, dude. |
