Any advice would be appreciated...

I was hired to blog for the website of a national TV show. We agreed on a per-post payment, the number of posts expected per week, the deadline, etc. I was sent a tax form and told my first batch of blogs would be due at the end of that week. I emailed back right away asking for a fax number to send back the form, and got no response. A few days later, I sent my completed posts for the following week, like we discussed, asking again for a fax number. Still no response. A couple of days later, I emailed my blog ideas for the next batch, and got an auto-response vacation email from the editor that said they would be away until the next week (today). In the meantime, one of my blog posts went up on the website--it was one I had submitted as part of my application for the job, and the editor had said they would be putting it up on the site before the other batch I sent.

So I emailed once again today, when the editor would be returning from vacation--just a polite follow-up. Again, no answer. The editor never provided a contact phone number and I can't track one down online.

So---what do I do? Do I give it more time, send an invoice for my submitted posts (or just the published one), keep emailing? Has anyone been in this situation and dealt with it successfully?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Can you get a friend in PR with a database to look up a phone number for you? Is it a cable or network show? Either way, call the main switchboard and try to get in touch with the person that way. Whether they work for the production company or the network itself, it shouldn't be too difficult to make a few calls and track the person down.

I would wait a few days to see if s/he responds post-vacation. I wouldn't do any more work on their behalf until this is ironed out.

Good luck.

Lessons to be learned here:

Never work without a contract.

Never work for someone for whom you do not have a telephone number.

Never turn in a second round of work until the first one is at least acknowledged.

This kind of thing must be happening to a lot of writers these days. I've had people go MIA on me a number of times this year -- even people who I have an in-person relationship with. It's annoying, but it appears to be part of the writing life!

Just don't send them any more of your work. And if you don't hear anything back, I'd watch closely to make sure they don't use any of your material.

This just happened to me, too! It was for a Brooklyn-based blog of all things. I asked if I could postpone my start date and if the blog ed. had received my signed contract and W4. No answer. I figure, there's something wrong with them, and I can do better.
