| jmr83 | Posted 6/17/2008 10:28:37 PM | show profile I have an interview at a major book publishing company and was wondering if anyone had an editorial assistant interview and would be so nice as to give a heads up as to what kind of questions to expect. Any tips/ suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I get nervous so this would calm me down a bit. Thank you! |
| hawkmail | Posted 6/17/2008 11:10:11 PM | show profile I would be surprised if the person interviewing you doesn't ask what you like to read....genre, favorite authors, something along those lines. Sorry I can't be more help. Good luck. |
| bookmap | Posted 6/18/2008 12:05:40 AM | show profile Make sure you know their current book list well so you can comment on specific books and authors. (I would look at both their summer and fall lists, which are usually in pdf formats on the sites). I've been asked about the last three books that I've read, what literary character I relate to the most, and which genres I prefer to work with. They really want to get an idea that you are interested in their content, not just ready to take any job offered to you. Then there could be situational questions dealing with how you would respond in certain situations. These could deal with how you have dealt with deadlines, co-workers, making big decisions, etc. If you're meeting with HR, I would expect pretty general questions and a full explication of your resume, so make sure you can account for every detail on it! Hope that helps...as you interview more you'll realize that most publishers ask the same things and you'll become quite comfortable and already know how you typically respond. |
