Does anyone know how to find medical professionals who are willing to be interviewed?

I'm having a heck of a time finding a dermatologist who I can interview for a health/wellness story. I've tried referrals from family and friends, but have gotten nowhere.

My boyfriend's mother is a well-connected dermatologist, on the board of directors for the American Academy of Dermatology Association, etc. If you send me an email, I'll send you her email address.

Try the Dermatology Departments at major hospitals, especially teaching hospitals. They have more credibility than doctors who have private practices only.

Look for doctors who might have written books on the subject or who have been interviewed and quoted in articles in the past.

Contact PR for Dr. Murad. He's a delightful interviewee. Or Renee Rouleau out of Texas. Or Dr. Moy at UCLA. Or Dr. Galumbeck on the esat coast. I've interviewed all of these notable derms at one point or another and they've all been very flexible to work with.

I've often found derms who were quoted in other magazines very willing to give an interview. For instance, if I was writing about after-sun skincare, I'd contact a derm who was quoted in an article on the same subject. When I'd say that I read their quote in X magazine, most times they were happy to talk to me.

There's a potential problem with contacting a doctor who is already in some high profile magazines. Your story will sound like that of everyone else. Wouldn't you want something new in your article? Also, some fashion magazine writers keep interviewing Suzanne Levine, DPM about foot problems. She's not even Board Certified and people have claimed that she is not even allowed to do foot surgery any longer because she's maimed people!

I've used Steven Victor in NY and he's always very friendly and helpful, and has assistants following up to make it easier to check on things or add questions.

I also just check Harvard first for everything, and then go from there to other universities or people who've contributed to papers with Harvard profs---that usually gets me the top people in the field.

Profnet's okay, but you do get a lot of quacks.
