| elephantshoes | Posted 7/14/2008 2:19:39 PM | show profile hi - is anyone a production editor? wondering what salaries are like and what the position typically entails. i am a sr. project coordinator for a textbook publisher. my current duties are primarily project management, but four years ago the dept. was production. we create/monitor schedules, track pages, interact with all internal depts. and outside vendors to keep pages moving, create/monitor workflows, manage electronic files, send files to vendors, track down missing files/art. i don't proofread or edit per se, but we do oversee that editorial and design don't make unnecessary changes that could impact the schedule or budget. we do daily problem solving with vendors, internally and with printer to resolve file issues. i've been in publishing long enough to feel that my experience of print production from ms release to bound book is solid. so, i would like to think i have some great experience that could meet a production editor position. the only thing i see is that i don't actually edit pages. i'm familiar with proofreading marks and have a good grasp of english language concepts, though. and although i've never been a production editor, i think my skills are beyong an entry level position. any advice/input would be helpful. thanks! |
