Is it truly possible to blog anonymously? If so, how? I have no ax to grind; no company or person to complain about. I would simply prefer to discuss ongoing recovery without using real name/identity. THX!

The biggest concern is dropping hints about your background in your posts. Any blog can be anonymous. It's actually pretty hard to maintain anonymity over time in a blog because you can drop hints in your posts about your position if you aren't careful. If you refer to people by their real names, and other proper nouns, you can be sure that eventually someone will catch wind of your blog and perhaps be curious enough to find clues as to your identity within your posts.

You can be completely anonymous by password protecting your blog, but that's kinda counter-productive.

I find MySpace to be an interesting way to blog without your posts showing up on searches, but, again, your readership will be limited.

There is a blogger in our city that writers about police issues and is obviously a police officer in some capacity based on the content of the articles, but it's done with anonymity. There have been a couple of times that someone has tried to find out the identity of the poster, but they were not successful. The blogger has gained popularity because of his inside scoop, and it has had the effect of making the brass at the top more accountable to the media and public because people have come to trust the information in the blog.

So, yes, it can be done. And you can still have a successful blog. I can see the desire to do it anonymously when you're talking about touchy issues. If you're going to give people the ability to reply, make sure you allow them to post anonymously as well! -smile-
