After months and months of nothing, I managed to get an interview at a regional magazine I LOVE. I would kill for this job. And as someone who has only been out of college for a year, and who has been on a (very) limited number of interviews, I'm wondering what is the appropriate attire? I did some sleuthing on the person who will be interviewing me, and it seems like this person is young and trendy. Suits are too much in this industry, right? But I don't want to be too casual, either. What do you all wear on an interview, given the type of magazine it is? Thanks! |
| *Heather* | Posted 7/23/2008 11:50:25 AM | show profile Jennel -- I would go for something classic like a penicl skirt and a nicely pressed blouse and then go with funky/colorful accessories. This will show you have both a professional and creative side. |
| skyler | Posted 7/23/2008 11:53:41 AM | show profile well you said young and trendy right? if i were you, i would run out to the closest urban outfitters and get something hip but still professional. when i think magazines, i think creative and cool.. so thats how i would try to dress. but if you normally don't dress young/trendy... do not do it!!! because it will show, you might look uncomfortable... and that would be a bad thing! good luck on the interview, i'm fresh out of college and have been having trouble getting interviews, so i feel your pain lol! |
| AWC | Posted 7/23/2008 12:11:48 PM | show profile You should always look professional for interviews, even if you suspect the atmosphere at the publication is rather casual. It shows that you're taking the opportunity seriously. You don't have to wear a suit, but save the "trendy" stuff for after you're hired. Good luck. |
