Topic: Requesting ARCs from publishers--advice?

| Agirlwalksintoabookstore... | Posted 8/27/2008 12:47:51 PM | show profile | email poster I've been blogging about books for eight months, but its only been this week that I was introduced to the idea of requesting ARCs for review. How do you phrase your request? Obviously, please and thank you for your time, but how do I come across as someone to be taken seriously? And if a publisher asks you for your request faxed on letterhead, and you don't have one (a letterhead), how would you handle that? I've also heard that some people have had luck e-mailing the author directly for information on where to get ARCs of their books. Any thoughts? Thanks. ------ http://agirlwalksintoabookstore.blogspot.com |
| dribbledrive1 | Posted 8/27/2008 2:02:58 PM | show profile How seriously you'll be taken is a consequence of the popularity and quality of your blog. If you have good readership numbers, tell them. As far as letterhead -- if you have Word or a word processing program, you can make your own letterhead in 10 seconds by just putting your name and address at the top, centering it, and changing the font. |
| jobhunter08 | Posted 8/28/2008 12:42:03 AM | show profile I've requested ARCs via email from publishers and never had a problem. Explain who you are, the nature of your blog, your readership, etc. |
| foodlit | Posted 8/28/2008 10:53:54 AM | show profile Publishers love to do this. I regularly get emails from them with offers to send an ARC, and my blog traffic is low. I'd just email them and send a link to your blog. |
| Agirlwalksintoabookstore... | Posted 8/28/2008 11:44:25 AM | show profile Thanks so much for the responses. I had no idea if doing this would be crass, but I've been sending out a few requests and hope it all pans out. ------ http://agirlwalksintoabookstore.blogspot.com |
| bookmap | Posted 8/28/2008 1:02:56 PM | show profile I leave every interview/informational I have with a publisher with an ARC it seems. They will give them away to anyone...so I'm sure it will be no trouble at all. But you should be contacting the marketing and/or publicity departments - they are the ones who deal with sending out ARCs for review. |
