I would like to try out some copyediting but i havent used proofreading symbols in years and cant remember the majority of them. Anybody have a recommendation of books that might help or any other way to get some practice/experience without having to pay for a class.

The symbols are in the Chicago Manual of Style. You could probably find them online, too.

they're also in the merriam-webster dictionaries e.g., 11th collegiate, which is what most places use

thanks for the suggestions about getting symbols but anything on practice, i find i remember things better with use than trying to simply memorize it.

This is a terrific resource for copyediting: http://newsroom101.com/.

Also, AP Style is your friend. You can join online or pick up a book at your local bookstore .

The Copy-editors handbook
by Einsohn, definitely worth the investment.
