| sheprip2 | Posted 8/28/2008 3:19:33 PM | show profile | email poster I have an assignment from a national parenting pub to write a piece on discipline. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best sites for connecting with either real live parents for quotes/interviews and/or parenting experts, for soliciting advice/solutions? thanks! Leah |
| Linda F | Posted 8/28/2008 4:04:00 PM | show profile Momma Said (http://www.mommasaid.net) has a section called Magazine Rack where you can post your request for "real parent" sources. Good luck! Linda -- The Renegade Writer Blog: http://www.therenegadewriter.com |

| sheprip2 | Posted 8/28/2008 11:04:03 PM | show profile | email poster thank you! I just got inundated with responses from Helpareporter. thank you! I have also just sent off an email to mommasaid. Seems it's much harder connecting to real live people (moms) than experts. (I guess this is not so surprising....) so, if anyone else has any ideas on how to get to moms (or dads) who would be willing to be interviewed about times they have caved into their kids (even when they knew better -- like grabbing the sugared ceral from the grocery aisle in oder to get the hell out of the grocery store with sanity intact...), i'd love to here from you. thanks again, Leah |
| maphop | Posted 8/29/2008 10:30:29 AM | show profile Yahoo and Google both have forum boards where I suspect if you make a posting on the parenting board (or single mom board or single dad board or...) you'll be inundated. |
| abqwriter | Posted 8/29/2008 11:19:22 AM | show profile Mothering Magazine also has a very active forum that might be of use for a different cross-section. |
| HisGirlFriday | Posted 8/29/2008 12:39:43 PM | show profile Can you give me some examples of what you want to ask moms and dads? I'll post it to my e-list of parents. |
| sheprip2 | Posted 8/29/2008 4:00:07 PM | show profile | email poster here is more info (and thank you again!) Ok, here is the nuts and bolts of the article I'm writing...)? I am seeking moms/dads who have struggled with setting limits with their young (2 to 8 years) children. The article will feature real life "pushover" scenarios (like bribing your way out of the grocery store, being unable to pull the plug on too much TV or sleeping in your child's bed in order to get him to fall asleep.) I am interested in your most compelling, frustrating, desperate, embarrassing, commonplace "caves". Each "cave" scenario will be followed by advice/strategies to arm parents with the resolve and wherewithal to hold the line. So, if you are a parent who has some fresh, innovative ideas on how to set limits with your kids in specific situations (like those above), I'd love to hear from you, as well. |
