Topic: Sites for online proofreading/copy editing gigs

| need to pay the bills | Posted 1/16/2009 1:04:10 PM | show profile | flag this post Hi all, I am trying to figure out how to do some online proofreading/copy editing...what are your experiences with the "bid sites"...guru, elance, get a freelancer? Any suggestions on how to find this type of off-site freelance work? Are all of these bid sites scams?? Thanks for any input. |
| WordyBird | Posted 1/16/2009 2:37:32 PM | show profile | flag this post I've heard of people getting legitimate work off those sites, but overall, you're going up against people in India who are bidding at a rate of $2.00 per project, so don't count on using those sites as a major form of revenue. Mostly, they're garbage. |

I've decided it's a waste of time to pursue some of these, like Get a Freelancer. I don't think it's a scam, but the competing bids are ridiculously low. That goes for writing as well as editing. I've recently signed up for EditFast, and I believe rates are higher there, according to the project archives. But--OUCH--EditFast takes 40% of your earnings. You can bid higher to compensate, but I haven't yet seen if that will pan out. |
