| Job Requirements |
The Communication and College Relations Manager will report to the Director of the Institute and will be responsible for internal and external communications. This position establishes and maintains communication and ongoing working relationships with outside organizations and manages the design, implelmentation, and management of communications to support College visibility and recognition. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
Represents the College to a portfolio of external organizations.
Plans and implements communications campaigns, working with publications staff.
Applies an understanding of the concerns of external organizations to develop short- and long-range plans to advance the College's position and support community/public identified needs.
Plans and implements major activities such as conferences, collaborative partnerships, and educational programs to support identified needs and issues.
Identifies and develops new audiences and communities to further the mission of the College.
Develops and implements advertising and communciations campaigns, working with publications and editorial personnel.
Maintains relationships with media representatives.
Develops and implements web-based strategy for promoting the Institute's activities and services
Prepares internal and external communications (student newsletter, updates for legislators, briefings for advisory board, etc.)
Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience.
Preferred Requirements
Experience in communcations and marketing
Experience with multimedia, including web and audio pod casting
Editorial experience
Excellent presentation, written and oral communications skill
Strong computer skills
Ability to work effectively with outside partners.
Ability to work independently and collaborativley in a fast-paced, demanding, and complex work environment, carry out complex assignments and adapt to changing situations and priorities. |

THE Josepher S. Murphy Institute for Worker Education and Labor Studies is a collaboration between the University and New York City labor unions, for the purpose of serving the educational, policy and research needs of unions and their members. The Institute is comprised of two centers. The mission of the Center for Worker Education is to: 1) offer undergraduate and graduate programs to working adult students and union members: 2) expand access to college throughout the CUNY system; and 3) partner with labor union s and employers to address training and education needs of union members. The Center Labor, Community, and Policy studies conducts research, offers leadership development programs, hosts forum and national conferences, publishes articles, books and a national labor journal to promote debate on issues critical to labor's future and its policy role. |
