Would Google Build a Mobile Network?Mobile Entertainment, along with the rest of the industry, is wondering if Google is planning to build its own cellular network. Google has been lobbying the US government about is upcoming auction of wireless spectrum, according to the article. "The company has urged the Federal Commission to adopt four types of open platforms as part of the license conditions in the 700 megahertz band." It turns out Google is interested in open standards, meaning that you can use any device on any network with any software. The company also thinks that anyone should be able to acquire spectrum licenses with reasonable terms, and that ISPs and other firms should be able to interconnect with those licensed networks at "any feasible point." Sounds like Google is up to something. Google: Now comes the mobile network? [Mobile Entertainment] Email This Post | |||||||||||
