Welcome to The Press List, our weekly newsletter alerting you to upcoming media events worth knowing about. March has definitely come in like a lion, with a major snowstorm blanketing New York City and a blizzard of media events on the calendar this week.

Arguably the hottest ticket will be Friday's book party for The Nation's financial crisis primer, Meltdown: How Greed and Corruption Shattered Our Financial System and How We Can Recover. Authors Naomi Klein and Barbara Ehrenreich will be at the event to discuss the book with Nation publisher Katrina vanden Heuvel.

If you're in the market for media events that don't revolve around the recession, we recommend joining mediabistro.com for drinks and conversation. We're hosting parties this Thursday in Boston, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. where new FishbowlDC bloggers Christine Delargy and Matt Dornic will be on hand to talk media shop with local readers and Beltway denizens.

What went down on the media circuit last week? Two teams of bloggers battled in the "Know Your Meme" quiz at Ignite NYC III. Fimoculous blogger Rex Sorgatz and a crew that included URLesque's Kelly Reeves and Engadget founder Peter Rojas won the competition against a team featuring CNET blogger Caroline McCarthy and Bre Pettis of Brooklyn-based "electronics hacking collective" NYC Resistor. Also in attendance was lensman Brian Van, who photographed the proceedings for Guest of a Guest. Over the weekend, NonSociety's Julia Allison and Facebook exec Randi Zuckerberg threw themselves a "bicoastal birthday bash," with festivities in San Francisco on Friday and a Saturday party in New York. At the East Coast event, CollegeHumor founder Ricky Van Veen, Clusterstock editor John Carney, Rachel Sklar of Abrams Research, and former Daily News gossip Lloyd Grove were among the guests who showed up to wish the ladies well.

We'll be back next Monday to forecast which media events you'll want to know about, along with all that went down at this week's hottest happenings. Be sure to check out 'Conferences, Etc.' and 'Beyond New York' for media events beyond the five boroughs in Chicago, Santa Monica, and Boston....
