Welcome to The Press List, our weekly newsletter alerting you to upcoming media events worth knowing about. We all know media's been hit hard by the sorry state of the economy, but things look up this week with plenty of training opportunities for you media pros in search of work, plus parties to keep you connecting with others in the field.
Start things off by getting your resume in tip-top shape at mediabistro.com's two-day resume and cover letter workshop, which begins Tuesday. Once your gussied-up CV is good to go, take it for a test drive at the Public Relations Society of America's "Pink Slip Party" for job seekers and recruiters on Thursday.
If staying afloat in this recession has left you in dire need of relaxation, there are plenty of parties this week designed to help you unwind. On Wednesday, AdAge is hosting a "This Sucks. Let's Play" party to help frustrated job seekers focus on more lighthearted matters. In addition to networking, the evening will include an advertising trivia game hosted by editor Jonah Bloom. mediabistro.com is also bookending the country by throwing cocktail parties on both coasts -- specifically, New York and San Diego -- this week.
Other events on tap that'll provide welcome distraction from economic concerns: On Saturday, New York's politicians and political journalists will gather for a night of comedy performances at the annual Inner Circle Show charity benefit. WNYW anchors Ernie Anastos and Rosanna Scotto are scheduled to attend, along with WABC correspondent N.J. Burkett. But, New York isn't getting all of the anchor action this week -- down in D.C., the American News Women's Club will be having a discussion with PBS host Gwen Ifill on Thursday.
We'll be back next Monday to forecast which upcoming media events you'll want to know about, along with all that went down at the prior week's hottest happenings. Be sure to check out 'Conferences, Etc.' and 'Beyond New York' for media events beyond the five boroughs in Chicago, Washington, D.C., and on the West Coast....
