Course Details

What if you could not only use words, but video, to tell a compelling story? Writing a newspaper story or magazine article is very different than writing for television. As a TV newswriter, you do more than just write. Among other things, you are reporting, compiling video, and logging sound-bites. Whether you are interested in making a career switch from print or radio into TV, or if you just want to learn what it takes to be TV news writer, this class will give you an overview.

In this class you will learn:

  • How a TV newsroom works
  • The role of a TV newswriter
  • The difference between print and tv journalism
  • TV Writing Basics (V0's vs. Packages)
  • How to work with Producers and Reporters
  • How to write compelling story with pictures

Angela Chee
Angela Chee currently reports for KNBC-TV in Los Angeles. She has worked as an anchor, host, and reporter for KCBS/KCAL-TV in Los Angeles, E! Entertainment Network, The International Channel, Channel One News (a national news network broadcast to high schools), and helped launch Entertainment Tonight China for Paramount Pictures. Working her way up from the NBC affiliate in Palm Springs, her broadcasting career has taken her across the country and her work has been seen around the world. She has served as a guest lecturer at several Universities and Colleges including the USC Annenberg School of Communication. She is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association and the LA Press Club. Angela is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, with a BA in Communication, and has also studied in China at Nanjing University.
