What brings your attention to a cause? Of all the organizations addressing a cause such as hunger or literacy, how do you decide which has the programs for which you want to donate or volunteer? Nonprofit organizations need people to help explain their causes and programs to the public. They employ writers to help write newsletters, web copy, and brochures that tell the stories of clients, inform people about their cause, or report on the status of their programs. A writer might help explain how, for example, a stream cleanup program preserves the habitat of animals, provides educational opportunities for children, and results in a 50% reduction in toxicity levels in one year.

Nonprofit organizations also employ writers to prepare grant proposals. A skilled grant proposal writer is a matchmaker who can find the right funder for the right program, and make a case for why the organization and program should get the grant.

In this seminar, will learn:

  • How to make sure the organization is ready for grant funding
  • How to find the right funders
  • How to tailor requests to program needs
  • How to find and follow application guidelines
  • Basic grant proposal structure
