No matter how great an editor you are, not knowing how to use QuarkXPress can stop your magazine job search in its tracks. mediabistro.com to the rescue! We've partnered with the Association of Graphic Communications to teach you everything you need to know about the most widely-used design program in the magazine business. By the end of this two-day course, you will be editorially proficient in QuarkXPress, a declaration that will sparkle on your resume.

In this class, you can expect to learn:
  • The proper way to make text changes
  • The basics of typography
  • How to use style sheets
  • How to use formats and tools
  • The use of utilities, including hyphenation and justification
  • How to recognize common problems and find their solutions
  • How to expand your knowledge of the program beyond the class

By the end of class, students can expect to have:
Proficiency in QuarkXPress 6 on a Mac.

Instructor Bio

Lisa Mermelstein
Lisa Mermelstein, M.A., has over 15 years experience as a Graphic Designer and has been a Web Development Consultant and instructor since 1995. Her clients include Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Time/Warner Inc., Workman Publishing, Random House, Young and Rubicam, J. Walter Thompson, Oracle, and PeopleSoft, Inc. She is on the faculty of the Association of Graphic Communications in New York, as well as at the Continuing and Professional Studies Program at Baruch College in their Web Design Certification Program. Lisa is a New York State Certified Teacher and holds a Master's Degree from New York University in Photography/Digital Media.
