Course Details

A person's ability to get onto and advance up a masthead depends on his or her ability to show early aptitude in and eventual mastery of a number of skills -- story judgment, communications skills, managerial ability, and relationship skills. Often a talent in one of these areas is enough to land someone a job, but then young people are usually left more or less on their own to figure out the other elements, success or failure at which often makes the difference between a long career and short one. In this three-hour seminar, a veteran editor will talk about the things you need to do to be successful, and ways you can improve your ability to evaluate yourself as others do.

In this seminar you can expect to learn:

  • How to understand what your boss is thinking
  • The significance of understanding the magazine you work for
  • The crucial importance of meeting deadlines, working within stated formats, and following other protocols
  • The unparalleled importance of eagerness
  • The importance of developing aptitude in the minimal skills of the trade
  • Why ideas are the ultimate coin of the realm
