Course Details

Maybe you've thought of recording your grandparents' stories from decades past, or you found an old box of reel-to-reel tapes you don't know what to do with, or maybe you want to record an important story that no other media outlet is covering and submit it to your local radio station? The radio documentary is a perfect tool for all of these.

In this seminar, you will learn:

  • The step-by-step process from inspiration to completion
  • The basics of recording techniques
  • The differences in hardware and software for recording and editing
  • Digitizing, editing, mixing, and outputting audio
  • All about websites and organizations that take pitches and radio stations that encourage volunteer reporting

Christopher Sprinkle
Christopher Sprinkle worked on bad romantic comedies, low budget music videos, and lots of commercials before he took more socially relevant work producing two international public affairs programs on Pacifica Radio. He then made the switch to freelance documentary production and, surprisingly, has survived doing just that. He makes an average of about ten documentaries a year on all different subjects and of all different lengths. His work has aired on more than 300 radio stations in the United States and abroad. He also produces live event coverage around the world, including both political party conventions in 2004 and the inaugural broadcast of a South American cable news network in Caracas, Venezuela. He also directs and produces documentary films.
