Course Details

But plenty of publications still value the long-form story (anything over 2,500 words), and this intensive 8-session class will show you how to write it, pitch it and get the big bucks you deserve for all the hard work. Over the course of the workshop, each student will focus on shaping one non-fiction magazine article between 2,500 and 5,000 words. In the process, you'll learn how to pick a topic worthy of deep exploration, build story structure that holds readers' attention, capitalize on your reporting skills and journalistic eye, and how to use fiction-writing techniques to find the music and meter in your writing.
