What brings your attention to a cause? Of all the organizations addressing a cause such as hunger or literacy, how do you decide which has the programs for which you want to donate or volunteer? Nonprofit organizations need people to help explain their causes and programs to the public. They employ writers to help write newsletters, web copy, and brochures that tell the stories of clients, inform people about their cause, or report on the status of their programs. A writer might help explain how, for example, a stream cleanup program preserves the habitat of animals, provides educational opportunities for children, and results in a 50% reduction in toxicity levels in one year.

Snow Tempest has years of experience writing grant proposals, newsletters and other materials for nonprofit organizations, including the Center for Nonprofit Management in Los Angeles and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta. She has made presentations on grants research and fundraising strategy to such organizations as Educate LA, the California Advancement Researchers' Association, and America Connects.
