Course Details

Humor-writing is among the hardest forms to master. What, exactly, is funny? How do you predict what audience response is going to be? How do you know if you're going to be offensive? Do you even really care? We all know the rule of three, and we've done some reading on the anatomy of the joke, but how can you translate what you know is your fabulous sense of humor into hilarity on the page?

Watch and learn. Some of this town's funniest writers will gather to help us answer those questions, and come up with some new ones.

Panelists include:

  • Stacey Grenrock Woods, Esquire columnist; former Daily Show correspondent; author, I, California (Scribner, 2007)
  • Neal Pollack, author of Alternadad (forthcoming), The Neal Pollack Anthology of American Literature and Never Mind the Pollacks: A Rock and Roll Novel, among others
  • Jill Soloway, writer, Tiny Ladies in Shiny Pants; co-executive producer, Six Feet Under; co-creator, Sit n Spin
  • Joel Stein, op-ed columnist for the L.A. Times; contributor to Time magazine

....and more to come!
