Course Details

In just 2 days, learn how to create your own web page and get your name and your work out there for the world to see. We've partnered with academyX to bring this series to you. 

In this tutorial we examine the various tools necessary to create a website. Subjects considered include HTML tags, the differences between a Text Editor, an HTML Editor, and a WYSIWYG Web Application. Also discussed are the merits of various web browsers and we take a cursory look at FTP and graphics programs.

In this class you can expect to learn about:

  • HTML: Understanding HTML tags, Creating headings, Writing proper HTML code, diagnosing common HTML mistakes, formatting elements and techniques, lists (bulleted lists, numbered lists, and embedded lists), block quotations, indenting text, including special symbols, as well as color character codes
  • Images: Create and modify existing images for the web site; image formats: how to wrap text around an image, how to use an image as a background, and how to add horizontal lines to separate content.
  • Linking: Learn how to link to external websites, to link to pages on the same site, to make an image link, and to use a link to launch e-mail.
  • Tables: multi-row, multi-column table, the different types of cells - for headings and data, how to put a border around your table, how to change the background color of a cell, row or an entire table, and how to change the alignment of a cell or of a row of cells.
  • Programming tools: Using Mozilla Composer and Dreamweaver assist in creating tables and hyperlinks.
  • File Transfer Protocol (FTP): Learn how to access a server, to see where web documents reside, to place your files on the server so they may be accessed from the Web, and to review your published website
By the end of class, you can expect to have:
A completed website.
