Course Details

If you're an expert at spotting misspellings on menus and grammatical errors in song lyrics, copyediting could be the career for you. Experienced and skillful copy editors are in hot demand both on editorial staffs and as freelancers. To flourish in the field, you must develop a range of knowledge, including a firm grasp on grammar, spelling, and punctuation; you also need good people skills and, often, familiarity with QuarkXPress or InCopy. This three-hour seminar will launch your copyediting career.

In this seminar, you can expect to learn:
  • The difference between copyediting and proofreading
  • How to brush up on your grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills
  • Proofreading and copyediting symbols
  • Grammatical pitfalls: misplaced modifiers, collective nouns, and other tricky situations
  • How to use reference books and resources effectively
  • Developing a copyediting resume and finding work as a copy editor
  • Learn what to expect on a typical copyediting test
  • What to expect once you get a job
