Food Writing for Travelers
Course Details
Food is often a central component of a travel story. As readers become more interested in food and wine, travel stories are starting to look a lot like food stories. You write travel stories (or want to) but feel a bit shaky now and then about your knowledge of food, fine dining, or wine. You want to be able to do more than recite a restaurant's menu and declare it either "delicious" or "disappointing" with confidence and style. Learn how to make your food coverage sing and say as much about a place through the food as anything else. In this one-day workshop learn tips, tricks, and basic food expertise that will punch up your restaurant, B&B, and wine coverage. We will focus on the kind of food writing most commonly found in travel pieces: restaurant reviews and coverage, chef and artisan profiles, vineyard visits and wine tasting, farmers' markets, and other community events. Students should bring one restaurant menu and notes (and any other supporting material) to class. In this class, you can expect to learn: Students will also receive lists of reference materials and recommended reading in both food and wine.
