Sara Austin
As features director (news) of Self magazine, Sara Austin assigns and edits investigative articles on women's health that average about 4,000 words in length. Her work has won a dozen awards for writing and editing, including a 2005 National Magazine Award. She has been a senior editor at Marie Claire, covering international news, and at the award-winning general-interest magazine Civilization. Earlier, she was an associate editor at The American Benefactor and at the classical music magazine Symphony. She holds a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master's from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, where she graduated first in her class.
