We will focus on how to build the story of your book and then explore the publishing business as a whole, including tips on getting an agent.

  • How to get a book deal without an agent, using a literary attorney

  • How to promote yourself so that you get noticed and your book gets sold!

Sharlene Martin and Anthony Flacco
Sharlene Martin is the founder of Martin Literary Management in Los Angeles. She has had numerous clients sell second books, as well as film and television adaptations based their memoirs. You'll Never Nanny In This Town Again hit the New York Times and LA Times bestseller lists in 2006 and was recently optioned to E! Entertainment for a one hour scripted series. Several of her authors have had their books boosted as serial reprints in publications including Readers' Digest, People Magazine, and the London Times.


Anthony Flacco is acquisitions director of Martin Literary Manager. His first nonfiction book, A Checklist for Murder, was adapted as a two-hour television movie script and sold to NBC Studios for a movie of the week. His second nonfiction book Tiny Dancer was selected by Reader's Digest as their Editor's Choice. His second novel, The Hidden Man, is scheduled for publication in June of 2008.
