Course Details

"Most conferences are dry and boring. That's why we're calling ours a circus," says mediabistro.com founder Laurel Touby. "There will be no deadly panel discussions, rehashed conference fodder, or self-congratulatory case studies. Instead, a roster of Internet rock stars will present fresh takes on topics crucial to their businesses."

Mediabistro Circus is an unconventional gathering about technology and the critical platforms changing the flow of media. Topics include mobile technology, online video, social networking, blogging, digital publishing and user experience design.

The event will mix big ideas with back-end practicalities. Short breaks between sessions will feature interactive demonstrations that make the business case for new tools and technologies.

Speakers will include:

  • Nicholas Carr, former executive editor of the Harvard Business Review and author of The Big Switch: Rewiring the World, from Edison to Google and Does IT Matter? Information Technology and the Corrosion of Competitive Advantage
  • Paul Cloutier, founder and CEO of 8020 Publishing, a new magazine publishing company that produces the reader-created magazines JPG and Everywhere
  • James Daly, Editor-in-Chief of Edutopia; former Editor-in-Chief of Red Herring, Editor-in-Chief and editorial director at Business 2.0, and features editor at Wired
  • Anil Dash, Chief Evangelist at Six Apart and founder of one of the earliest and most popular blogs on the internet, named one of MSNBC's "Best of Blogs"
  • Jim Louderback, CEO of Revision 3 and former SVP and Editor-in-Chief of Ziff Davis' Consumer Tech Division
  • Steve Rubel, senior vice president of the me2revolution practice at Edelman, the world's largest independent PR firm
  • Robert Scoble, author of the blog Scobelizer, co-author of Naked Conversations: How Blogs are Changing the Way Businesses Talk with Customers, and creator of Fast Company TV
  • John Wiley, user experience designer for Google Apps

Mediabistro Circus will feature sessions on:

  • Publishing's transition from print to digital
