Course Details

You have an outline for the next great chick lit novel. You have a start on your draft, and you're well on your way to the midpoint of the book -- or maybe even beyond. You need guidance. You need deadlines. You need someone to tell you if you're even on the right track. You need help figuring out how and when to edit your own work. How can you tell if you've got something good before you commit to writing 300 pages, and more importantly, how can you stop procrastinating?
Join a small group of fellow writers in your pursuit of a polished complete first draft under the guidance of a published novelist with four books under her belt and two more on the way. In this rigorous workshop, we'll focus on critiquing, shaping, and editing your work. Be prepared to live the life of a working novelist -- reading one book and turning out a chapter of your book each week. But most of all, come prepared to have fun with a group of like-minded writers all in pursuit of the same goal, which will feel much more tangible by the time the class is through.

Admission Requirements
Please submit a letter of interest (including a brief work history) and a writing sample (less than 1,000 words).

The online classroom has several interactive components:
  • Instructors post lectures once a week. You can read them online, print them, or download them at your convenience.
  • Students post completed assignments for feedback and discussion by the instructor and class.
  • Weekly chats allow your class to get together via instant message. Transcripts are available for review if you can't attend.
  • Technical support is available from mediabistro staff.
