Not only will you need to flesh your idea out into a three-act outline or treatment, but there are specific tricks of the screenwriting trade you need to know. Gail Gilchriest
Gail Gilchriest tells stories -- for the big screen, for the small screen, and on the page. Her screenplay adaptation of My Dog Skip won a Christopher Award in 2000. The next year, she adapted the novella The Ponder Heart for American Masterpiece Theater on PBS, and in 2004 earned the Horton Foote Award for achievement in screenwriting. She's done feature rewrite work for all the major studios, and created television pilots (both drama and comedy) for ABC, CBS, and NBC. Currently, she's writing a feature-length romantic comedy for MGM.

Gail began her career as a journalist, writing feature stories for national magazines including Elle, Sports Illustrated, and Spin. She was a feature writer and columnist for The Houston Post, as well as a freelancer for The Houston Chronicle and The New York Times. Her two books of narrative nonfiction, The Cowgirl Companion and Bubbas and Beaus, were published by Hyperion.
