Course Details

Whether you're a novelist, blogger, screenwriter, personal essayist, comedian, or just somebody with an idea, audio podcasting is a great opportunity for you to build a community around your work and ideas. This class is designed to give you the understanding and the tools to produce your own podcast. Each week, students will learn about recording, editing, microphones, hardware, and software. Over the course of 4 weeks, you will learn everything you need to know to create your own podcast and publish it on the web. We'll also take the time to tailor the content and instruction towards the specific goals of the students in the class.

In this class, you will learn:

  • What hardware and software to use when creating a podcast
  • Recording and editing techniques
  • How to use microphones within your podcast
  • How to publish your content to the web
  • How to develop your idea and avoid common mistakes
  • How to build an audience

The online classroom has several interactive components:

  • Instructors post lectures once a week. You can read them online, print them, or download them at your convenience.
  • Students post completed assignments for feedback and discussion by the instructor and class.
  • Weekly chats allow your class to get together via instant message. Transcripts are available for review if you can't attend.
  • Technical support is available from mediabistro staff.
