Course Details

Learn the basics of what it takes to be a good television news reporter including: piece structuring, writing a killer script, delivering a live report, setting up and conducting on-camera interviews, and more. If you have a background in print journalism (or even if you don't), this class will give you the fundamentals to pursue a career in television journalism.

Students will be taped doing a stand-up, i.e., a live-from-the-scene report.

In this class, you will learn how to:
  • Write a compelling script
  • Set up feature pieces
  • Turn a print article into a good television piece
  • Understand the video editing process
  • Deliver a good "standup"
  • Learn to tell a good TV package from a bad one
  • Film a feature or breaking news story
By the end of this class, you will have:
Two taped appearances.

Wendy Gillette
Wendy Gillette is a television reporter, producer and anchor with more than 12 years experience. She currently produces and reports for CBS NewsPath, providing reports for all the CBS affiliates in the country. She previously worked as a reporter and anchor in five local markets including New York's WCBS. She received her bachelor's degree from Rutgers College and her master's degree from Boston University.
