Course Details

Comics and graphic novels are powerful and popular forms of storytelling. They fuel blockbuster media phenomena and entertain millions worldwide. Spider-Man, The X-Men, and Sin City are just a few properties that first appeared in graphic-narrative formats.

But how does one get started in this exciting and lucrative field?

In this 4-week class taught by noted Marvel Comics writer and editor Danny Fingeroth, students will not only learn how to write a comic book or graphic novel script, but will have that script reviewed and critiqued by the instructor and the class in a round-table format. Assignments, both in-class and take-home, are designed to enable students to learn how to express their ideas?whether they be intensely personal or compellingly commercial?through the graphic-storytelling medium.

In this class, you can expect to learn how to:
  • Develop ideas for a great story
  • Structure a story
  • Write effective dialogue
  • Connect with the right artist
  • Avoid a beginner?s creative and career missteps
  • Get the green-light from an editor
By the end of this class, you can expect to have:
A workshopped script and an understanding of what goes into writing a professional level comics script.

Admission Requirements:
Please submit a letter of interest, including a brief work history, and your desired outcome for this class.
