In this class, you will learn how to:

  • Manage the business side of a creative enterprise
  • Establish or expand your online presence
  • Pitch yourself and your skills to a broad client base
  • Solicit testimonials, feedback, and referrals
  • Get paid regularly (and avoid deadbeats)

By the end of class, you will have:

An updated resume/LinkedIn profile or freelance website, specific action items for starting and growing your business, and prospective clients and tactics for soliciting them.

Ted Trautman is a writer, editor and professional nit-picker. Since 2012 he's been a contributing editor at Circa, a mobile-first news organization based in San Francisco. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Slate and in the online editions of Wired, The Atlantic and The New Yorker. Ted specializes in delivering clear, concise, and compelling copy on deadline, and he enjoys teaching others to do the same. Before going into journalism, Ted spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Kyrgyzstan, where he taught English as a second language. He holds a master's degree in journalism from the University of California-Berkeley.
