But writing for children is harder than it looks. The best children\'s books are as poetic, exciting, funny, and poignant as any work of adult literature.In this class, you\'ll develop a children\'s book from an initial concept to a dummy ready to submit to publishers. Through writing assignments, you\'ll focus your ideas and build your story. You\'ll also create an illustration portfolio ready to present to art directors. The entire process of creating a children\'s book will be explored, including writing a first draft, making sketches and character studies, editing, and creating finished artwork and dummies. We\'ll also discuss how to approach publishers.\n\nNOTE: This class is designed for writers and/or illustrators. Applicants need not be skilled in both areas.In this class, you will learn how to:\n\nExplore your inner child to write fictional stories\n\nTurn your ideas into a finished manuscript\n\nGo from sketches and character studies to finished artwork\n\nCreate pacing and flow&nbsp;\n\nCreate a finished dummy to submit to publishers\n\nCreate an illustration portfolio to submit to art directors\n\nWrite cover letters and approach publishers\n\nBy the end of class, you will have:A complete dummy of a children\'s book ready to send to publishers.\n\nINSTRUCTOR BIO\nJacquie Hann is the author and illustrator of children\'s books including That Man Is Talking To His Toes, Up Day Down Day (a Junior Literary Guild Selection), and Kick Block Punch. Her work has been widely distributed and published with foreign translations and her illustrations have appeared in Good Housekeeping, Humpty Dumpty, Children\'s Digest, and Scholastic magazines.\n\nJacquie studied at the School of Visual Arts and Parsons School of Design, where she taught how to write and illustrate children\'s books for many years.\n\nTestimonials\n\n"Jacquie was AWESOME!
